I wonder what kind of complimentary torrents are preloaded onto these ones.
lol, i think they wouldn't pull that again after all the publicity. but it would still be a good idea to check.
did DS just sold a laptop with other people's hard drive in it?
With pirated movies
no, DS sold a returned/used 1.5TB portable hard drive as a "new" one to a customer, "more generously", that hard drive fully loaded with pirate movies and "genuine" virus when that customer connected and used it with his computer at the first time…
NSW fair trading has been investigating…
Former employees from DS/JBHIFI/HN and some "lucky" customers said that selling the used products as new is very usual within these big electronics stores. sometimes the staff didn't finish the "jobs" properly , so the above incident(see my 1st paragraph…) happens.
so…double check, triple check and multiple check the "new" items we are buying from them(especially the packaging..),safe shopping, otherwise, 2012 is coming much sooner than we can imagine.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, best wishes for you all guys:)
I always assumed stores would restock returned items. If they didnt, they would lose money and then stores wouldnt have returns policies at all. Its a small price to pay to have the ability to return an item.
This time, someone at Dick Smith screwed up and forgot to wipe it. If you think you got something second hand, you should immediately return it for another one, and ask for compensation for your time. But if i read it correctly, the guy got a virus by trying to open the files on the hard drive. So its his fault for A, opening random people's files and getting a virus, B for not having a virus scanner, and C for not backing up his documentary files on his computer. Whats the big deal?
no big deal
Your first statement isn't exactly correct. There's a reason the margins so high on electronics.
Australia returns policies are much more strict compared to Canada where I can return just about any electronic good for a reason as simple as "I've changed my mind" with a full cash refund — and even there, they can't sell those products again as 'new'.
Looks to me like it's an unfair practice where people are just trying to line their pockets more.
I always thought people check whether an item is open box or not. If open box, then ask for further discount, or don't buy it.
You should be able to tell whether an item has been tempered with from the packaging, e.g. slight damage, re positioned stickers, no plastic wrap etc.
If you read the articles, they talk about cleaning off the surface of the items, using shrink wrap machines (especially in the case of Harvey Norman) etc …
You cab get 10% off any day of the week just by asking at jb or dickies. This "sale" is a bit of a con really.
yeah its pretty depressing when 10% off is considered a bargain. Thats nothing against the OP though, 10% is about as good as it gets when it comes to Apple stuff.
Thats because apple computers only have a 12% margin. so the company has to make some money to pay its staff.
thats because apple has decided not to compete on price, amd enforces a strict pricing policy. Frankly its pretty good strategy considering HP almost dumped its PC division because of the price competition amd slim margins.
No, HP almost dumped their PC/server division because they were run by an ex-SAP guy who thought the only way HP could make money was through software. Leo Apotheker will probably go down in history as a shill for venture capitalists.
If you guys are implying that a 10% sale on Apple gear means JB are only making 2%, then that really sucks for JB, but I stand by my original statement. Apple never discounted in the past because they only concerned themselves with the wealthy. Nowadays they never discount because they're well-marketed ultra-capitalists with a slavish customer base.
RE: mighty (it won't let me reply)
Also, by offering regular discounts, you tarnish your reputation as a premium brand. Same thing with monster cables and other premium brands — they don't like offering discounts because it hurts the expectations and perceptions of what their products are worth
Indeed, when I bought my new Macbook Air in September or October, I walked in and said something like "can I have 10% off?" the guy asked me what deal I was matching and I just replied, "every few months someone has a 10% of sale.. I'm happy to wait and go somewhere else, or give you a quick sale — it's up to you"… he walked away for a minute and then came back and did up the invoice for me :)
nice, dick smith's monthly apple special.
thanks for sharing.
