Iveco Daily Very Hard to Start and Intermitent Injector Light

Hey guys I've got a 2005 Iveco daily that is very hard to start and sometimes doesn't start at all with and intermittent Injector light that comes on about 50% of the time and is sometimes flashing and other times not. The battery also drains almost overnight so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it

Any help is appreciated

*I should also add, the air conditioner started going a bit haywire turning its self on and off just before it started getting really difficult to start

  • First step would be to have it scanned if it's flashing a fault light. What engine is in it?

    • I'm fairly certain it's a 50C15

      • 2.8 or 3.0 litre?

Either way, should be common rail injection. Was this a sudden problem, or it's been getting worse over time?

  • Battery will need a load test to determine if it is the battery or a slow electrical drain.

Light will probably be a sensor fault or a fuel filter fail/blocked. The only real way to tell is with an OBD reader. (You may need an OBDII to 38pin adaptor and suitable Iveco software.)

Try googling "Iveco Forum" and see what that comes up with. You wont be the first person with this issue.

    • I'll do a load test when I've got some time.

I've already ordered and adapter so that coming soon hopefully.

I've had a quick look around online but most people seem to still have theirs starting some what reliably

      • My guess is it will end up being something like the crank/cam angle sensors or the fuel pressure sensor/regulator on the back of the fuel pump. The OBD reader is the best place to start. You could end up throwing hundreds of dollars at it in the way of sensors and still get the same issue. At least the OBD will help narrow it down.

        • Good idea, I'll wait for the adapter to come and update. In the mean time do you think I should clean out the fuel filter behind the chassis pump

          • @Vortex943: If it’s been on there for 15 years and never changed, sure.

            • @pegaxs: It looks like it's never been touched haha

  • I also have an Iveco 2005 Daily with the same problem Mostly starts fine and then sometimes is difficult I may crank it 20plus times leave it come back and try again Battery great. When engine starts runs great .Have had Crank and Cam angle sensors changed All sensors appear ok
