Please Recommend a Slideout Rangehood

Hi fellow Ozbargainers,

My rangehood at home is pretty grotty and needs replacing, my existing rangehood is a Kleenmaid RH4, but u can't find any manuals so I'm guessing the Rh4x has similar measurements. Can you please recommend a rangehood that will fit in the space, ideally under $400 from Good Guys/Appliances Online?

Also, are they pretty easy to remove and install? Not sure if I should just book the installation at the same time as I rather pay it together and have it on the same receipt for me to keep track.

Thanks in advance :)

    Depends how handy you are.
I've done a few reno's and built kitchens, so it's something I would tackle - however my dad wouldnt know which end of the hammer to hold.

The right attitude is the most important part. Then you just need some basic tools. (Drill required if mounting bolts do not line up).
Check out a youtube video. Typically they mount from the top on 4 bolts.

You'll need someone to give you a hand to hold the unit up while you screw it in - probably need to drill new mounting holes for new unit.

    • My husband is pretty handy but not good at looking up stuff so he's leaving the task to me. The top of our current rangehood is behind the cabinets so I can't imagine how to mount it from the top hmm

I am a novice, but I managed to install one. It was attached to the roof of the bottom shelf, I was able to remove the vent stack and bottom shelf, then reattached the rangehood to the shelf and put the shelf back in. Mine just plugged in so no electrical wiring was required.

this was the one I bought. The old one was a different brand (electrolux) but a very similar model, it even had similar screwholes.

    • I did see that one earlier and it was the only one in the price range that had the exact width of 598,but the height is quite a large difference, would it matter?

Also I saw the previous deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/568008) for this but the reviews werent very good. How are you finding it?

The height just means that the range hood will sit lower, or closer to your hot plate. I don't know if your existing one is flush with your other cabinets or not, but at least it should fit in the space.

Mine works ok now, but its still relatively new. The one I had that was similar had about 15 years of life before it needed replacing. This has 2 filters, the old one had 1 filter so I am happy with it.

        • I don't know about internally but it's flush against the bottom of the cabinets if that makes sense? So if it's shorter inside that just means there will be a gap internally? Would that be OK in terms of venting or maybe if bugs can get in (apparently my husband found 2 dead cockroaches inside the old one errk)

Yeah my old one has 2 filters, I looked up the replacements and it cost $70 each so might as well buy a new one..

          • @MeesusEff: If the Westinghouse is shorter than the Kleenmaid, its possible to build it up with another piece of wood under the shelf so that it finishes flush, or settle for it finishing higher than the existing cabinets.

If the Westinghouse is longer, only 2 solutions, either cut the cabinets and make it shorter, or settle for the rangehood hanging lower.

            • @biggweilo: I measured it with the tape measure and it looks a little different than the manual specs lol

What my cabinets look like, I don't know how it looks like internally

              • @MeesusEff: sorry so long to reply.
Getting it level to the front should be fine, but there may be a small gap near your wall.
You can still put a bit of white wood up afainst the wall if you wanted to, I dont think its a big job.

                • @biggweilo: Aha I did buy the Westinghouse one last week, currently waiting for the installer to show up now 😊

                • @biggweilo: Damn it, it didnt fit. The previous owners seem to have built the cabinets around the rangehood and now we have to get a cabinetmaker in before they can try again :(

                  • @MeesusEff: damn. I probably should have seen a photo inside the cabinet.

Mine was really simple. It attached directly to the bottom shelf inside the cabinet.

My parents use a slide out Bosch one if that helps.

I have an integrated Smeg rangehood, can confirm dont get it as half of the buttons dont work anymore :/
