  • No doubt a pricing error…

Product images are of the B550 (ATX), not the B550M (mATX)… so which is it meant to be?

    • Hi Vylen, thank you for bringing this to our attention I can confirm it is the mATX board.

  • So it is a mAXT without WIFI or USB 3.2 Gen 2 in front panel.

    • +4

The PCIE slot looks like it'll get eaten up by two or three slot GPUs making a PCIE wifi adaptor not possible. You'd be stuck with USB dongles which are never as good, the better ones are expensive, and they never come with Bluetooth, and which eat up USB ports (2 if you want Bluetooth)

  • Good luck to anyone who managed to get one.. good price..

but I am sure its an error..

this is one of gigabytes highest mATX models. priced at cheaper than their budget option..

I suspect the correct price is going to be $219 not $119..

    • +17

There's a good reason why this is discounted to half the price. There is a version 2.0 of the board (in full ATX) which fixed some fatal issues that affected the board — namely USB controller stability. It's unknown if Gigabyte actually patched it out with BIOS update or just threw it in the 'too hard' basket and re-released the board with updated hardware.

Yeah definitely some mixed reviews, was unsure on whether to pull the trigger or not. Thanks for those links, I’ll have a read before deciding (and then missing out ha)

It's possible that you could RMA the board, meaning you would get a replacement V2.0 for the price of a V1.0 revision motherboard, but that's a lot of hassles and you have the uh…. pleasure.. of dealing with Gigabyte warranty.

Which may be a pleasant experience!? (I've never had to RMA with Gigabyte before).

          • @scrimshaw: Bit the bullet, will see how this goes.
Now on the lookout for RAM and a CPU to match, thinking the 3600 is about the right price-performance match.

            • @poida97: Kinda the only option rn tbh…

            • +1

@poida97: You should get the 1600 AF, Umart has them in stock for $185. I'm going to get one and a B450 for $70 from CCPU.

      • I can't find anything in there about the same issues affecting the mATX version so hopefully it's ok because I've already ordered it :D

        • those threads all mention the B550 (atx) version. I have the B550M v1.0 and no issues

          using usb 2.0, 5600x,

          used a 2080 Ti, 3070 and 3080

also used an Athlon 3000G with a 2080 Ti on the same board.

@kehuehue: What version of the BIOS currently?

            According to Gigabyte site

            F12 (dated 2‎021/01/18)
            Update AMD AGESA ComboV2 1.1.0.0 D
Performance optimized on Ryzen 5000 series processors
Add Re-size bar option for AMD Smart Access Memory support
Improve connection stability for USB 2.0 ports of USB hub
            Improve system stability

looks like Gigabyte did manage to patch the USB issue not long ago.

      • +1

They patched the bios in January - https://www.gigabyte.com/au/Motherboard/B550-AORUS-PRO-rev-1…

Improve connection stability for USB 2.0 ports of USB hub
        Improve system stability

Can't find anyone who's used it and reviewed though. So a bit of a potluck.

      • Thanks. Was aware of the issue.. but not that rev 2.0 fixed it.

But is that Rev 2.0 of this board only, or all aorus boards?

I had been considering the x570 pro wifi just to avoid the b550 chipset on an aorus board.

The USB issue likely has to do with global C-states being enabled.

The V2 is because some parts out of VRM being discontinued, they have to find something similar, and have to make a v2 instead.

      • From what I have found the reason for V2 is beacuse of a shortage in power doubler chips. They had to redesign the board to include dual rail power instead.

  • wow, dont care if price error, gonna do a price match at 28 degrees :D

    • Is it worth getting a 28 degrees card just for this price match feature?

      • absolutely worth it and easy. i got the board from amazon for 239 delivered and price matched it the next day for 199. and now this :D

      • Sadly this Price Protection insurance is no longer available from Latitude Financial (28 Degrees).

      • It's no longer offered to new customers

        • wow, that sucks, does any other card do it? back when i applied for it, it was coles mc who pulled the plug and now them?

  • Def not a price error. Had someone from the shop call me to say sorry about the wrong pics and to make sure I was still happy to proceed on the matx form factor.
All packaged up ready for the post tomorrow.

    Good service from these guys

I wish all motherboards came with some kind of Wifi capability, especially when there’s limited space on the board for PCIe wifi cards.

  • Took a punt, ordered one

  • This is the 550M Pro, not the 550M Pro-P which has way better vrm design. Still a good price though but the board is not a great performer by any means.

    • +3

Look at the price bro! Price is all that matters!

  • +6

I have this board and most of the issues were fixed with f12, however the usb issues sometimes persist. You could get around this by not using the usb2.0 ports and usinga hub with the usb3 but that kind of defeats the purpose of this board. Erratic mouse movements after wakeup/startup that doesn't last long. All the xmp issues were fixed. (The PC would instantly power off, it took 7 months for them to fix this. Yep i started that thread)
    Also avoid F13 bios.

    https://forum.gigabyte.us/thread/10720/b550m-aorus-pro-shutt…

Also the placement of the PCI-express 16 slot is lower than on other boards, which means the gpu has less room to breathe in the case which can make your gpu run hot depending on the case. (matx case)

    https://ibb.co/0FcT3jk

    • Also avoid F13 bios.

      have this board, why?

    • Agreed having so many issues with this board - bluetooth constantly disappears, have to shutdown and unplug the power to get it back again. USB ports are problematic too I can't use any external USB hard drive as it kills Windows.

great price for the board, i'd jump on it if i wasn't looking for an ATX board.

  • $239 now. that was fast.

  • I must have got the last one - had $20 credit voucher to use up…

    • thats the gaming version not aorus pro

      no big chonky heatsink

  • Matx boards often go on sale
Including z series x series at Msy . I figure they often have surplus as atx spacing and form factor remains popular I guess

  • nice deal

  • Will this fit in a standard ATX casing?
