Hi their ,
I wanted to get 6.6kw solar panel on our roof the only issue is that we have a decramastic roof tiles on the roof and some of the installers said it not a great idea to put the solar panels on them eventually of you put it as the time elapses the roof condition will deteriorate on the other hand some of the installers say they can potentially do it but it will cost a bit more . I am happy to bear extra cost however do not want to the roof to get damage(leaks and other structural damage ) . Can any one who had got the solar panel installed on the decramastic roof please shed some light on this or may be a someone who is got a similar background please provide your inputs . You help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm sure I've seen plenty of solar panels on those types of tiles.
Maybe speak to a roofing tiler or 2 for guidance.
Have you considered replacing the roof first?
That would be too dear to replace the roof mate ..if this would have been an option would have done it straight away ..
Have a walk around the neighborhood and see if you can see any houses with decramastic roof tiles and solar panels and if you do then knock on the door and ask them about it and who did they buy and/or install the solar from and call them.
I have no idea but I thank the OP for adding a new word to my vocabulary.
Decramastic i.e. Tin tiles can be installed upon but remember that they should not be of the type that contains asbestos. Having said that, it is highly recommended to replace the roof first as Decramastic tiles or tin tiles do not fair well in Australian conditions and are also well known to leak with age. Therefore, when installing solar on them mean the solar system would need to be removed when the inevitable time comes to replace the roof, which will add extra expense at that time.
Did you end up getting the solar panels installed on your roof?
Also curious if you got solar installed.
Some have the grit coating that has been asbestos mixed with it .
The only catch is the bitumen coating also contained deadly asbestos when these roofs get old and the stones along with the asbestos fibres start to shed.
This might be the reason why installers are avoiding it.
