In my humble opinion the best series within the series.
Apart from Magician, I agree. Great series.
I agree, the best of the Feist series (Co written with Janny Wurts)
Agree, Daenerys has nothing on Mara. But I never understood how "co-writing" works if anyone cares to explain?
I kind of thought these were actually mainly written by Wurts but based on the world introduced by Feist. But I think it varies widely
@Birdseye: The writing was definitely more like Wurts' style thats for sure.
Not entirely sure however If you know the authors you can often see some of the process.
My go to for co-writing is Good Omens with Gaiman and Pratchett. Gaiman builds an in depth world that it's easy to get lost in his writing and you can see a lot of this in Good omens too. Pratchett does in a different way, but you can definitely see his humour brought across from the Discworld books. It's a really good balance.
I'm not as familiar with Wurts, but a lot of the style is similar to Feists early works. I would assume he did the main writing with detail/inserts from Wurts. Not taking anything away from that because there's a lot of new detail you don't see in any of his other books.
Feists other colabs (The legends range like Honored Enemy), I would think were mainly written by the others with history/input from Feist. There seems to be very little of his style there and each book reads differently.
agree. That and magician dont bother with any of the others.
Do you need to read Silverthorn and Darkness before this series?
I've been meaning to give Magician another shot but I have so much other stuff in my backlog to read.
No this book series mainly has tie ins with magician iirc. I think the end of the book series timelinewise does match darkness at sethanon? Don't remember clearly.
Magician overlaps with the first book and a half - It starts pretty much the same time (within the first years of the war). The third book overlaps with the end of Darkness at Sethanon. There's not much you need to know and I think they work well as a separate series, but I would still recommend reading the original trilogy.
The best books Feist has written.
Loved this series. Just make sure to read it after finishing the original magician trilogy if you havent read it.
I have purchased several Raymond E Feist trilogies from Amazon Daily Deals and I'm yet to read one of them.
Off topic: just finished reading Columbiano by Rusty Young. I highly recommend this and his other book: 'Marching Powder'.
Start with David eddings the elenium instead.
On first read I thought if was magicians equal. On second read, the elenium is far superior. Can't say that for his one with Polgara in it.. No joy from that one
My issue with eddings is his series' all have the same story arc. Great characters, but I can't get past the repetition.
100%.. He has three good books, and repeated them with different names over and over.
I sorta agree great books but for me it was going downhill at the begining of Talon of a Silver Hawk (Conclave series). Riftwar, Krondors sons and Serpent War where the peak for me. Still great and i hope one day at least the first 2 series get turned into a show one of these days.
@[Deactivated]: I liked Talon, but then it started focusing on the main characters again (Pug/Tomas). At that stage I was ready for more of the new characters rather than going back to "and Pug/Tomas came to the rescue" that we have seen too many times.
Saying that, if he brought out a new Midkemia story I'd still read it.
I actually rate the Belgariad and Mallorean series over the Elenium and Tamuli ones. Entertaining reads, but they are very repetitive.
Excellent series

This is an excellent fantasy series with an amazing female lead. An easy must-read if you've already started with the main series Magician.
Excellent writing and world building in this series. I expected a follow up series given how good these three books are.
Genuinely surprised that someone hasn't done a tv series/movie series yet. First it's a great story but think of the PC angles: woman lead, cast of Asians, cho-ja liberation angle, challenging old masculine valuesb etc. It's perfect modern TV.
Thanks OP. Keep posting. Need to get some of the other Feist series :).
Loved these as a kid, good read. Maybe I should read them again and see how they stand up to the test of time…
I'm currently reading the whole saga again for the third or fourth time. I used to have the same opinion of this series that everyone else seems to have, I thought it was one of the best parts of the saga, but this time around I couldn't get through it. I got part of the way through book three and ended up just reading a synopsis and moving on.
I love the story but some of the writing is terribly repetitive and after so many eye rolls I had to put it down.
I would buy if it was on the US store. My kindle is set to US store and they never get good discounts on real books (not the free stuff).
That's the reason I got it on Google Play.
Books read better on e-ink than LCD/OLED
Not going to disagree there, I just prefer the versatility of a traditional screen.
Can't make a second account?
Oh really? I actually thought it was the other way around. I get eReaderIQ alerts on good prices for books on the US Kindle store and we don't seem to get the same discounts on our store. Interesting…
It might just be a case of the grass is always greener
