Refund/Return TV Due to Faulty Panel within Warranty Period

I bought a 75 inch Samsung QLED Q80T during black friday and within 1 month of use I discovered black spots on screen. Contacted retailer GoodGuys and they arranged technician inspection from Samsung who recommend panel is faulty and panel needs to be replaced.

Samsung said they won’t replace/refund TV, they can only repair TV for me. GoodGuys also suggesting Samsungs remedy.

Is there any way to get replacement or refund for the TV rather repairing? Anybody had similar experience? I don't want to repair a two month old tv where I paid almost $3k for it.

Thanks.

When you have a major problem with a product, you have the right to ask for your choice of a replacement or refund.

I asked for replacement/refund from GG and Samsung several times but they declined telling it’s a minor problem, not major. But technician report clearly states panel needs replacement for this 75inch TV.

Should I lodge a ACCC complaint? Anyone got any positive result by raising complain for similar kind of problem?

      • Maybe ask them to change for a different brand or model and pay the extra etc.
But I’d just show them the above link and say if not I’ll be putting in a complaint.
TGG should do it because they don’t lose anything from this. Good luck.

I mean if they repair it and replace the panel, you get the same effective result as getting a refurbished replacement anyway so not sure what you're after if not a refund.

If you want a refund, I would ask again but I can see the minor/major subjective argument. Suppose if it still plays content fine but just slightly darker on one side, it could be seen as 'minor'. If it doesn't switch on at all, maybe 'major'.

Don't know but fully understand why you're peeved. Maybe avoid Samsung in future.

Panel needs replacement was recommended, not whole TV.

      • They are correct…..It is a minor problem, the unit can be REPAIR and your problem will be 'fixed'.

If you have a minor problem with a product or service, the business can choose to give you a free repair instead of a replacement or refund

So if you get a new panel, I'm struggling to see what your problem is unless you have just decided you want a different TV. I mean the panel is where the fault is located, and they are giving you a new one. What am I missing here?

I had the panel replaced on my Sony Bravia only a month ago. They literally brought a new panel in a box and swapped all the boards from my TV onto it. Fine with me.

    • Spots on the screen sadly can be argued is not a Major problem
So they are within their rights to repair.

I guess it will depend on whether it is a major failure or not. Post a picture and let us all decide

Correct me if I am wrong, I think replacing a 75 inch TV panel is a major problem. Though Samsung saying it's minor thats why diasagreeing to replace.

Probably on the grey area here I reckon. If the entire tv panel was dead (ie no picture or close to having no picture) then major failure. But some blurry spots maybe? Get some ACCC or local fair trading advice as to their opinion on minor or major.

Ignore Samsung and just tackle the local store as they have no ability to repair the TV themselves. All they can do is replace it or refund you. Don't let them fob you off to Samsung.

They can talk to manufacturer on your behalf.

      Spots on screen
      (https://ibb.co/tQpWc50)

      • That looks worse/more noticeable than the fault my Hisense TV was showing. 1 year of ownership into the 3 year warranty and I'm getting a refund.

Mine wasn't an almost $3000 TV so they probably calculated it's cheaper to repair rather than replace, whereas mine was seen to be cheaper to replace/refund than repair.

  • Thanks for posting the model number.

I will not buy Samsung TV in future

    • Because of one person's problem with one model? I could point you to major issues and complaints about every single TV model ever made. Will you then never buy another TV at all?

      • yep. also because of OP's experience. Samsung chose repair rather than replacement. Forget that. I won't even touch the brand. I'll stick with Sony TV's.

  • Had dead pixels on an LG 65", hardly normal replaced quick enough without much issue but I'd notified them a day or two after receiving the tv

It is a minor problem. Get the repair.

  • If they're going to repair it and it works fine, what's the problem? Was created in the factory, now in your house - and it'll probably have a better finish there than in the factory!

  • Seeing how long you have had it a while when it was faulty I would get the panel replaced.

Not sure how you repair black spots which are most likely dead pixels but let them try and make a fool of themselves.

  • I’ve got a 75inch Samsung too, yellowing on areas of the screen, only a couple of months old too. Samsung will replace the whole screen under warranty. No offer of a replacement unit. Only good thing is store will pick it up and deliver to the technician and also return.

I figured I could get a replacement tv but might end up with another dodgy screen at least the replacement should be a better option incase there was a faulty batch.
