Do Xiaomi Global phones from Banggood with EU ROMs pass SafetyNet Hardware Attestation?

Hi,

As per title, do those EU ROM versions of the Xiaomi phones (e.g. Redmi Note 9 Pro) you see on Banggood pass SafetyNet (so you can use all the fancy banking apps) without any extra hacking?

  • Yes - with magiskhide if you want root

    • Sorry, are you saying if you don't want to root there is no need for magiskhide on these EU ROMs? I can't tell if these phones already "hacked".

  • It should pass safetynet because these phones with the EU version of the ROM come with a locked bootloader. I've even installed these EU ROMs onto Chinese version Xiaomi phones and never had an issue passing safetynet.

Edit: Also forgot to mention the firmware is not affected by what version of MIUI is on it so there should be no issues there either.

    • OK, thanks. It's confusing when I read things on https://xiaomi.eu/ and assume it applies to all phones as if it's a custom ROM (I would see EU only models on sale on Banggood e.g. https://au.banggood.com/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-9-Pro-Global-Versi…).

      • This is the first time I've ever heard of a Xiaomi phone being shipped with a xiaomi.eu ROM preinstalled cause I was under the impression that it was an independent community website from Xiaomi. Also, on that Banggood link you mentioned, the only thing it mentions about ROM is "There is no difference between two versions except software." which leads me to believe that this just ships with the regular Global ROM (rather than the Chinese ROM).

Overall, I don't think you have any reason to worry about SafetyNet because in most instances (including MIUI/xiaomi.eu ROM) it only will fail if the phone is rooted. A quick google search also shows that the xiaomi.eu ROM doesn't break safety net when installed without root (https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/xiaomi-eu-rom-questions-…). I think you may be under the false impression that you have to root the phone with a custom rom when in reality you don't need to.

TL;DR Phone shouldn't come rooted so it should pass SafetyNet just fine.

        • Nah, I was reading about merely the bootloader itself being unlocked (on a non-rooted phone) as enough to trigger a failure, since last year: https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/fgwuxk/google_is_fi…

Thanks for the clarification about Xiaomi.eu ROMs. Regarding my Banggood link, normally you'll see both "Other Area Version" and EU versions available for their Xiaomi phones (hence the "There is no difference…" line). I've never used Xiaomi before and wasn't sure how "real" the EU ROM was. It turns out MIUI officially supports EEA/EU and RU at times.

          • +1

@peterpeterpumpkin: If it's a brand new phone then the bootloader should come locked even if the ROM is different as there are ways to flash a ROM onto Xiaomi phones without unlocking the bootloader (I have personally done this before with a xiaomi.eu ROM) so I don't think you'd need to worry about that either.

Best of luck and if you end up getting the phone with safetynet failing, you're welcome to shoot me a PM and I'd be more than happy to help you out the best I can.
