eBay Price Guarantee Interpretation Issue?

Before I waste any more time with the trash that is the customer service team of Ebay,
Am I reading the terms and conditions wrong for EBAY price guarantee?

How Best Price Guarantee works
If you've bought any new, 'Buy It Now' item but then found the item for less on an approved online retail website, let our customer service team know within 48 hours of the original purchase on eBay.com.au.

We'll check that your item qualifies, and if it does, we'll give you a voucher for the price difference plus 5% of the online retail site's price, which you can use towards your next purchase on eBay.com.au.

For example, if you bought an item on eBay for $100, but then found it on an approved online retail website for $90, we'll give you a voucher for $14.50 (i.e. $10 price difference, plus 5% of the online retail site's price of $90).

I bought a camera lens yesterday for $1116 after coupon . Digidirect retail store has same lens at $940. I have a stash of EBAY Gift cards I've been trying to burn through.
This morning went to claim price guarantee but CS is telling me it is not eligible as the 'original' price on digidirect's site is $1175. I say, well it says sale price is $940?

I've asked to escalate but they said it will take 48 hours. Did I mis-read the offer?

Update: I started another chat with a different CS agent and it got approved no problems. I’m so amazed they would let Cs agents get away with their own interpretation of rules.

I don't think you've misread. They could have added "original price" or "non promotional price" or something to that effect if they wanted to exclude sale prices.

The chat was outsourced the last time I used them. They are clueless compared to before.

      • Going from the names it seems like it- but I mean does that mean they’re outsourcing, to an already outsourced team? For a small - medium company I’d get it but this is ebay we’re talking about. Surely they’d spend a little ensuring some sort of uniformity/ compliance lmao

Another nail in the coffin IMO. Amazon is killin it.

        • Can you please expand a bit more on your issue of eBay initially refusing to price-match, how is Amazon is better in this regard. As far as I know, they don't price match. Or have I missed something.

@spal: They don’t. I was referring (not very clearly) to their customer service. Which on every occasion has been perfect 10/10.

FYI they don’t price match but returns are very easy and orders easily cancelled. More than I can say for eBay.

            • @Jimothy Wongingtons: Thank you. I totally agree with that assessment. I asked because I was told by Amazon customer service that they do not price match. Although, they happily cancelled my order and gave me a credit. Top notch customer service.
