    • So if it dies you would prefer to stare at a dead screen?

      • +1

How do you sell a dead TV?

        • -2

          Yes, you sound very intelligent?????????????

        • +15

I bet your never going to get rid of that sundial either. Nothing like those rubbish hand watches.

        • -5

As sure as the sun will rise tomorrow, even the best Swiss watch will fail one day. Just like clockwork.

        • +2

your trinitron has black dots across the screen. get with the times. chuck out that power suka.

        • -5

I paid $5600 for the set so I'm not chucking it away. It's one of the finest pieces of electronics I have owned.

        • Nice Trolling :)

        • Damn.. If I knew they are that good.. I wouldn't have given my 25" Trinitron away. problem was I can't play my BluRay stuff on it… no HDMI port. And analogue TV just so many snow on it.

        • Well, I don't know if I'd be hanging on to a 4:3 SD set. My Sony Trinitron is 16:9 and HD (not full HD though). It doesn't have HDMI, but it has component input. And who watches analog TV? Get a STB or Foxtel.

    • +2

Never ever getting rid of my Morse code/telegraph system. They could off me a smartphone for $1 I wouldn't take it.

      • -2

Only someone who has never owned a Trinitron before would say something like that. I bet you thought cassette tapes were better than records, and VHS was better than beta, right?

        • What model is it? Im after a TV with good black levels atm

    • There are some good flat panel TVs out there it won't hurt you to check them out.

I used to have a Phillips CRT with Digital Natural Motion it was an insane TV and it cost over $3k and had a better picture than most LCDs until motion technology in them became a whole lot better.

The world doesn't make worse updates on technology as such. Only in some cases model to model but definately not when you compare generations to generations.

    • was the philips a pixel plus tv , they were ahead of their time

    • I have relatives who thought so too. They thought their Sony Trinitron was superior to modern LCDs… until they saw one next to their set. Crisper picture, sharper, much higher resolution, lower power consumption, etc etc. They replaced their Sony.

BTW: many LCDs are made in Korea.

      • What they saw was an ideal HD image being shown on the flat panel. An image that you're never going to get with free to air TV (which is almost all SD). SD looks rubbish on a flat panel, because flat panels are fixed resolution, while a CRT can display an infinite number of variable resolutions. Compare a SD image on a flat panel to a CRT - no comparison.

  • thats a good price, 3 months ago cheapest was $1299.

  • +2

This is a great price but I can't help but think we will see some super deals after Xmas.

  • +1

Great price. I got mine for $1165 or something. Fantastic Buy, good huge tv :D

  • is this LED?

    • +1

      no LCD about 10cm thick.

      • Indeed, it's fairly chunky.

        • +3

Oh noes, 10cm thick, for the life of me i can't understand how that could be annoying to anyone.
Also, amazing deal, might be time to upgrade from my measly 42inch Samsung.

        • My Trinitron is 57cm thick.

        • -1

          10cm is like…. 1000% thicker than some. That's HUGE!!

        • ever thought of the people who still use box televisions?

waiting for a really GOOD deal before switching to slim.

        • +5

You guys worried about 10cm should get a projector…you could then measure the depth of the image on the wall in photons! :p

        • +2

Yeah, I was thinking to myself "oh crap I can't fit the TV in a 55 inch manila folder"!!

      • +4

Yeah its a touch thick and heavy, but come on. When can you get a 55" LCD for under a grand, and when can you get it in a good brand?

        • +4

anytime in the future… but at the present time and date its bloody cheap!!!

  • +2

Would have been nice to put the warranty in there rather than

"As we source directly from the manufacturer, all products come with the standard manufacturer’s warranty. This warranty is typically 12 months however, please feel free to ask one of our friendly sales staff for more information."

Ah no, I want to shop online with all the facts to hand. Not look online, ring to confirm the warranty or search other websites to find out, come back to your website and then order online. Talk about peddling s… uphill for the sake of your web monkey putting it in there with all the other specs, let alone the sales blurb.

  • how's the USB playback? comparable to Samsung playback (iv'e tested them to play .mkv .rmvb .avi and it worked)?

    • +3

Abysmal… Sammy and LG crap all over low-end Sonys when it comes to USB playback

  • Just notice that it's EX500 model, so it's discontinued model and its not a smart TV. The current one is EX520.

    • The KDL55EX500 is a 2010 model, however, there is currently no 55" model (in Australia) in the EX520 series (only 46, 40 & 32" models).

  • +2

Just price matched it at jb for $995 delivered.

    • I'm curious. Why wouldn't you have just get it at Videopro seeing as it was the same price? It was their offer that gave you the tool to get JB to match it.

      • I'm not in qld, and I still prefer walking into a physical store to buy which is close to home. Just makes life easier if something goes wrong with it.

But thank you videopro for the price.

Oh, and I saved 50 cents too!

        • +1

Fair enough. Yes, I did notice the 50c but didn't want to mention it :-)

From WP: "I've seen the Sony 55 inch advertised in the David Jones catalogue for $2159 (RRP 2699) which is extremely good value! One of the best bang for your buck screens at the moment I reckon."

    hahaha!

But be fair, that comment comes from March 2010! Rupert Murdoch may have a job for you.
