Do I Need a Victoria Travel Permit?

Hi all,

I am going the Cairns for a short trip next week for 5 days. I am not sure if I will need to apply for a travel permit upon returning to Victoria?
If so, do I need to apply for it before going or during my stay?

Have anyone been in the same situation?

Thanks

  • Have you checked the Vic Govt website?

And I recommend checking it every day you are away, to keep up to date with the changing restrictions.

    • You always do that after asking randoms on the interwebz.

Yes. The permit system is indefinite for all ANYONE entering VIC. You just go in and say you're coming from a green zone, and it gets sent to you withing 5mins.

  • They say you do (we did), but when we went up to NSW and returned to VIC (last week), there was no one at the Hume Fwy border checking permits.

Apply before (it takes less than 5mins, and you get an instant email), it doesn't hurt.

Information of this nature changes moment to moment and daily. Please just rely on the DHHS website and information.

Getting busted or caught out at the border or wherever and saying 'OZB said I could' is not going to help you.

  • And, as if on cue, the changing situation in Melbourne is causing another state (SA so far) to consider closing the border to people travelling from 'Greater Melbourne'.

I did check the government website first. Just want to make sure I understand it correctly. And it didn’t really mention about whether I need one before or after flying out.
Of course, I check the border situation on an hourly basis.

    • The (changing) requirements relate to where you are travellling to (i.e. both legs of your trip).
I hope you are looking at Qld's requirements, as well as Victoria's.

  • I hope QLD doesn't close its border again like SA just did…

    • Not quite closed (but closed to some). Just saw a report that "…from 1am on Saturday Victorians will again need to fill out border declaration passes when they enter Queensland, but the border will remain open. Anyone who has visited an exposure site during the times listed by the health department will not be allowed to enter Queensland."

  • Don't think you'll need one now..
