This is the email I received…

Christmas might only be a couple of sleeps away, but the true gamer knows that Boxing Day is the time to swoop in for some outrageous bargains. What you won't know is this year EB Games will be holding our 1st ever ONLINE ONLY Boxing Day Bash!

Featured Deals:
Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii): $58
Skyrim (PC): $68
Skyrim (Console): $78
Kinect: $98 (After $50 cashback)

Free standard shipping using voucher code 'BOXINGDAY'.

EDIT: Sale has started and it is beyond ordinary. Prices seem to be EXACTLY the same as their in-store prices (with their current sale). The only games with updated prices (compared to in-store) are the handful promoted on the front page. Not sure why they hyped this up.

This is part of Boxing Day Sales for 2011

Seems their prices are along the term - CRAP

Doesn't look any cheaper than standard prices at other stores if you search around.
Dungeon crawl. Game… Discount is not that big

      • Agreed. Far cheaper options available online, including dungeon Crawl which will see you get the game in the same amount of time as from EBGames.

        • Completely agree, DO NOT support EBGames and the other overcharging scum.
I refuse to buy an identical game inflated by $30-40…if you want our partronage and aren't improving your customer service, you better damn well drop your prices.

A really good XBOX 250gb Kinect deal would be appreciated…

    • They'll show up after Xmas, when the $50 offer ends… :P

EB isn't the cheapest, but their last online sale was decent enough, i.e. I picked up Lego Pirate's of the Caribbean for PS3 for $28.

It'll be worth at least looking what they have to offer, though the preview specials aren't very exciting.

  • Why are you people plussing and negging this deal before you even know what's in it?? Okay we know four things, I'm sure the sale is much larger than that.

    • Was it wrong of me to give you a plus?

      • I make the point simply because it's a deal we have very little information about. It may be the greatest sale in the history of sales, and it may be like what Game likes to call a 'sale'. Either way we won't find out until Boxing Day, so it's pointless and very impatient to plus or neg the deal.

Sorry, misunderstanding. My previous reply was a joke, as I gave your comment a plus on the basis that I thought what you said was good.

    • I'm negging based on the "known deals". There won't be anything that will be mindblowing I don't think, if they're anything to go by, if I'm wrong I'll happily revoke my neg. But for the deals that were posted, that's what I'm basing my vote on. If you think people should wait until the list of deals are known, then perhaps the bargain shouldn't have been posted until all the deals are known.

Just giving people prior warning. If any deals are good, then it'll be worth the advance notification.

  • Last time they had a sale quite a few games were import copies with Aus rating stickers on top of UK ratings. So be aware of that when ordering the cheap ones..

    • is that even legal?

      • It happens in EB physical stores… even now and then… when someone trades in a UK copy of a game. It's legal as long as they place an Aust. rating sticker.

  • is the event started yet?

Appreciate the heads up. I would not of known if it wasn't mentioned here, so kudos for that.

Hoping to see some good deals on 3DS and PS3 games.

    Edit.
Well this sale is going off!

The titles are being updated as of this moment. Search went from 2 results to 19 in a single refresh. Deal has commenced.

    Very average prices.

    • Yeah, they aren't anything special.

I am confirming my order for the following:

Polycarbonate case protector - Nintendo 3DS
      Alan Wake - Xbox 360
      Skate 3 - Xbox 360
Fight Night Champion - Xbox 360

      $96 total.

      Edit.
Awesome! Used Express Post and it's only going to cost $1.55. Thanks again for the heads up.

      Edit. 2.
Did I just fail? Why did I choose Express Post if everywhere is going to be on holidays for the next few days? AHHHHH!!! Oh well.

  • lol, Napoleon: Total War - $23. I got it at a Game post-xmas sale a few YEARS back for $12!

As others have said, average prices, though Assassins Creed 2 for $8 seems okay.

EDIT: hmm, Mass Effect (PC) $13. On Steam today, $5.
EDIT2: Red Faction Guerrilla $13. On Game a few weeks back, $4.

    • You can't really beat digital distribution. It does not charge for delivery and packaging, which plays a part in pricing.

      • Not true, Game UK frequently beats the prices on Steam (Australian prices), even including delivery from the UK.

EDIT: I'll also note that EB Games and Game seem to have forgotten the point of a sale, which essentially boils down to two things.

        1. Clear old stock. You do this by giving moderate/large discounts. EB seems to have very selectively done this, hence the average prices.
        2. Get people into the store/s. There are really no 'door-busters', there's nothing in this sale that will really encourage me to get into an EB store.
        • I should of clarified - digital distribution = CD keys. =p

        • Ah right. Keep in mind that Steam is a full download, but otherwise I can't comment as I've never just bought a CD key, I've always made a legit full-game purchase :-)

  • Incredible prices. Why don't they have a chat to Gerry Harvey?
