This kayak was very popular a few weeks ago when it was available via Groupon for $107 + delivery ($19.95 to most places) in this deal

I was too slow back then, but got one now. Thanks to the Camels for alerting me that the Amazon price has come back down to the same level.

  • What’s it like in terms of quality? What’s it missing compared to the premium level ones? I don’t know much about these but looking to buy. Also are these dangerous to use at a local beach where there are next to no waves or are they banned? Otherwise where would you use it safely?

    • Follow the link to the old deal above, lots of people left positive comments.

I have yet to receive this one. It will replace a Coleman one I had for over 10 years. This one is better in a few ways: the seat is separate, not welded on - I had a couple of punctures on the Coleman, both were next to the seat because of the sudden change in angle - designed to fail. The fin is bigger, should give more stability. Pump included, saves another $10 if you don't have one already.

Safety: not banned, why would it? But check the local requirements for mandatory safety equipment: PFD, bailer, flares where I live if I want to use it coastal. Plenty of inlets and rivers near my place where I can legally use it with a lot less equipment.

    • I bought a couple of K2s a couple of years ago. They're great for the price, but aren't superb. You'll probably need a good patch kit (what comes with it is very ordinary). The pump feels flimsy but blows it up very quickly. They are a bit annoying to collapse down, and are bulky even when collapsed.

I'd highly recommend them for family use (including adults) in pretty calm conditions. I don't have any reason to not recommend them for stronger conditions, just no direct experience. There are a few vids showing that serious kayakers use them.
