Which Is The Best Suburb on The West Side of Melbourne?
Comments
doesn't altona have a sewage plant in it? I can't remember.
It's got more than sewerage
Adelaide.
Perth
Best suburb for what? Mansions with tennis courts?
The people who live in Point Cook claim that its the Toorak of the west! But hat area is not for me!
too much crime?
Too far away from the CBD and overrated + boring IMHO.
No nearby train station. The one that is driveable is very unsafe and yeah crime!it's more about having that once or twice a year incident on the princes that took you til midnight to get home.
Moonee Ponds/Essendon probably.
more north than west.
In no particular order
-expensive areas (All great areas to live)-
Williamstown
Altona
Sedan
Essendon
Moonee Ponds
Maribyrnong
Seaholm
Yarraville-Cheaper areas that are 'not bad'-
Keilor
Caroline Springs
Taylors Lakes
Keilor East
West Footscray (debatable - location to the city makes it brilliant)
Point CookSedan
I think it's spelt Sudan (also called Tarneit).
Maybe it was Seddon?
I did but Seddon but it must of auto corrected i posted on my mobile
My mistake
Isnt Essendon on the north side?
No…
Right. North-west I see :)

I like the Kingsville/Yarraville area. Lots of nice classic looking homes, tree-lined streets, and it’s mostly yuppies living there.
Agreed. Lived in Yarraville for 3 years, it was great. Very close to get to either side of the city via the Westgate or along Footscray road.
Traffic also wasn’t bad on that side of the city!
Newport?
Big plus of the west is no east side sissies
I think Williamstown would be the nicest suburb to live in out West if money was no object. Personally Yarraville is more my vibe though.
Sunshine is the best you’ll get on the west side.
Best to buy bargains? Why would you post in OzB asking this open ended question.
Otherwise this is another Cat & Alice conversation, where do you want to go…
Perth
Sanctuary Lakes would definitely be the Toorak of the west. The rest of Point Cook is highly overvalued in my opinion its pretty much the same as any of the other newly developed suburbs in the west (like Tarniet, Manor lakes, etc) and the road bottlenecks there are a MAJOR pain.
sanctuary lakes, whilst nice, have pretty much the same traffic issue as Point Cook.
Not disagreeing with that. Just saying Sanctuary Lakes at least LOOKS like it could have the title of "Toorak of the west". But the rest of Point Cook looks like any other newly developed suburb in the west, people living there act like its all great but I think its exaggerated and that traffic bottleneck makes its actually worse than some of the nearby suburbs
Prices on the west side just went up.

Flemington, Kensington?
Newport - right next to Williamstown but the house prices are better.
Main train station.
Huge reserve with a lake that feels like you are in the bush but 10 mins to the CBD…
Altona
