Hello, we are planning to build a new deck off the back of our house and want to hear from others who have done this recently with council approval. It seems almost impossible to do yourself as you need engineer checks etc. The deck is 9.4m by 3.5m with an awning over the top. The max height off the ground is 700mm for the deck. The deck would be merbau timber. We need council approval because the deck is over 25m squared. Has anyone done this recently diy? What did you do for engineer checks and drawings? Thanks!

Blue mountains council. There is state wide regulations for this as we are not heritage or bush fire prone and it's behind the house.im more after how people managed to get all the relevant drawings and engineer checks for their builds.
Hi @Tmanzi what was the outcome of this? Did you manage to get the approval?
I am planning to build a deck (DIY) of roughly 30m2. I called council and they provided the development exemption url, which is way to complicated for me to understand.
Totally dependant on your specific Council's regulations. Maybe someone could help, if we knew which Council area you were in.
