  • Apple Arcade had so much potential yet completely failed to deliver.

Apple need to splash some cash to get some decent games on their platform. The hardware's ready.

It isn't just about CPU/GPU quality. They've had that for a long time now and it hasn't happened yet. I think the key is actually user input. Touchscreens being the standard hold them back. I reckon Apple should make a dedicated portable console like a Switch/3ds/PSP. They could easily make the most powerful handheld system. Then developers have a target platform where the input standard is beyond touch and actually decent. Give it first class support like Nintendo does for their Switch.

      • With the iOS and Apple TV now supporting PS4 and Xbox controllers, this is less of an issue.

        • I don't think they'll ever succeed with a bolt on design. It has to be standard and built in. It'll always be what it is now if controllers are optional because devs will be forced to target the minimum input standard which will always affect game design itself.

      • Trivia: Did you know that Apple made a multimedia/game console 25 years ago, called the Pippin?

Sure did. As an old school Mac user I remember reading about it in magazines as “coming soon”.

          • @PainToad: LOL. And MacWorld was a paper mag. Our relative youth is revealed.

      • Well then Apple Consoles would be selling for just $999

  • I'm on 3 months trial. Wonder who pay for apple arcade.

    • +2

Feel the same about Apple TV. We're on a free one year trial at the moment, and we're enjoying For All Mankind, but dunno that we'd pay for it on top of Netflix (and Amazon Prime, but I get my money's worth out of free shipping so it's effectively free). Was a bit surprised to log in for the first time and see that it's a glorified Video Ezy (ie, almost everything is rent / buy at 2000s-era video store prices) and how little free content there is on the Apple TV+ channel.

      • On the whole, I agree, and won’t pay once my free 12 months is up. That said the Mossad spy series Tehran is fantastic and well worth a watch.

  • I had a 3 month trial with my phone 12 which recently expired. I've since got a new macbook and it only has a one month trial.

Assume it's 1 x 3 month trial for a given apple account regardless of how many new devices you get?

  • Terms and conditions is misleading. One offer per Apple ID

  • I recently bought an M1 Air, but can't seem to redeem this or the 1 year Apple TV+ deal. Anyone else had trouble lately?

    • Nope me also, New Mac and cannot redeem 3 months. Only 1 month.

    • Same here. Got a Pro Max and it's less than 93 days but only seeing 1 month free offer

  • I went onto Apple support chat this morning. The Agent asked me to upload proof of purchase (I used a PDF of the email from Telstra confirming my order) and then she looked into it and sent me a code to redeem to get the 3 months free. All good now
