Anyone have any idea when they might be 100% Australian peanuts again? Really didn't enjoy the last jar.

    • I agree with that. Keen to know too.

    • When the drought stops affecting Aussie supplies of peanuts.

      • +3

Supply of Australian peanuts isn't a problem for Bega. If they want access to Australian peanuts, then don't expect to pay the Aussie farmers peanuts.

Genius - peanuts are now digital products, you can produce more of them just by paying more. Got it.

          • @mickeyjuiceman: Mid 2020 peanuts were at their highest price per tonne. Australia produces approx ~ 40,000 tonnes of peanuts per year, which
represents about 0.2% of the world’s peanut production.

While the price has come down since the mid 2020 highs, its still high.

Mayver's flipped over to imported nuts at a time when the price was skyrocketing. They needed to find a cheaper alternative instead of paying top dollar for locally grown.

            • +1

@mrhugo: Australian peanut production has completely tanked, it produces about 10% yield in comparison to what was grown in 2017. It’s not about money, it’s about supply.

            • @mrhugo: And … follow along here … the price was high because why?

        • Bega has a single range that uses Australian peanuts, the rest of their products (95% of what they produce) use imported peanuts.

    • Never unless you wanna give up on your wealth to some extent.

The true King of all the Peanut Butters

  • No Aussie peeee nut —-> no buy /s

My go to snack, eaten straight out of the jar. Good stuff.

  • Sadly, quality has declined now they no longer use any Australian peanuts. I was underwhelmed by the most recent batch.

i think pics PB is half priced at woolies until wed

Finally. I made a grave mistake last time when I bought two jars of Smunchy instead of Crunchy.

    • What the hell is smunch

      • +1

Less crunchy than crunchy. It's smunchy.

  • Is the Cacao Super Spread on sale too for $3.25?

  • +2

Just a reminder that Coles now offers rainchecks again. Handy when these are inevitably sold out.

  • THE BEST

  • +4

    +1 for Mayvers skin on.
this is the best tasting and lowest carb PB you can find.
Some others can have 3-4x the sugar in it.
Time to buy like a 2020 dunny roll hoarder

      Second this! Exactly my thoughts

  • I agree with others, the peanuts they use now taste bland and nothing like the 'Aussie' peanuts they use to use. Mayvers taste is same as other peanut varieties which source thier peanuts from China and other overseas countries, nothing beats Australian peanuts for flavour.

  • Which is better? This or the current Pic's offer in Woolies.

    • Pics is better, I bought 4 yesterday to keep my stocks high.

    • +1

Mayvers is better. Whoever says Pics hasn't eaten enough peanut butter.

    • Mayvers skin on FTW!

stop being patriotists over peanut butter. Jesus christ.

    • +2

It's got nothing to do with patriotism. The quality is much worse now.

    • -3

Someone should point out to these poor souls how well marketing works.

Look at all the nonsense they are parroting just because 'not local'.

Makes me a bit sad that that's the level of intelligence of the average Aussie.

  • Dark roasted is the bomb in terms of richness and aftertaste.

  • Arrgh - too many choices. I need Ozbargainers guidance as to which to go for. I normally like crunchy peanut butter, but that skin on Smunchy looks good.
    What is your favourite?

    • I like mixing the dark roast crunchy with the skin on. Great combo. #MayversMasterlevel

      • Wow. You are a real connoisseur.
        Thanks.
Can I ask, the skin on one isn't too gritty or dry (compared to normal)?
Is it very different from the normal skin off peanut butter?

        • +1

The ones I had last time were plenty oily, and they mixed well. I really like it. I'd only buy skin-on extra-crunchy dark roast if they made that :-D
