Hi all,
Wondering what grind size people are using on their breville smart grinder pro, and if possible, what size when using airjo coffee beans.
Thanks!
My machine is the Breville Duo Temp pro BES810BSS, if that matters.

Can't offer specific advice as I don't have/use either machine but 100% on the scale.
Regardless of how you brew a digital scale is possibly the best thing you can buy to help with consistent quality.
There are some good ones under $50 but if you want to dive deep a Hario smart scale or Avaia Pearl is a good investment.
People will be able to give you some guidance, but it will depend on the age of the beans for the start. Grind some. If it's too bitter, grind it coarser and if it's too sour, grind it finer. As you go through the coffee and it ages, you will have to adjust. I use a Clever so I can't help you with your specific machine.
I change my settings every time I change type of beans.
Best way to learn is to use a digital scale and a timer. Plenty of instructions on YouTube.I agree with the above advice, but as a broad starting point I use 4-7 for fresh beans and 12-14 for supermarket beans. This is with a non-pressurised portafilter. Would go coarser with a pressurised portafilter
always been around 11-12 with fresh beans, Griffith Bros or Pablo & Rustys. also depends on how often you clean the grinders.
recently bought some grinder cleaner and full proper clean pulling out the burrs, definitely made a difference, had to redial it again.
also ensure how much you're filling the portafilter, use the razor as a guide and you should also see very minor indentation of your shower screen on your puck coming.
follow PCHammond's guide as well, I've got 2 scales - 1 for portafilter/coffee grind and 1 for brew/output.
tamping is subjective, 90's at elbow and keep flat surface. What grinder cleaner did you use exactly?
Hi all, I have a Delonghi dedica with an unpressurised basket, hoping to upgrade my grinder from a Sunbeam EM0440 (which I recently bought to find it doesn’t grind for enough, even with shims installed) to a Breville smart grinder pro (waiting/hoping they go on sale for close to the $200 mark soon). In the mean time I’m wondering if there is a decent enough cheap manual burr grinder I could look at using (I had an Avista one but the plastic burrs broke), or should I just suck it up and use the pressurised basket until I’m able to upgrade to a Breville SGP. Any input would be appreciated. Sorry I didn’t know where it would be best to post this question. Cheers
There are really very many variables. Beans themselves, darkness, freshness, storage conditions, how much pressure you're tamping with, the basket itself, etc.
It's all about dialing it in yourself. What works for you may not work with others.
A good starting point is that you want around a 2:1 ratio of beans:coffee at around 25-35 seconds. Eg: a normal double shot of 18g beans should give about 40g of coffee after 25-35s of extraction. Even this varies depending on the beans. It will take a few shots to dial it in where it's not under extracting (too watery) or over extracting (too concentrated). If it's under extracting, it is generally more sour, while over extracting is generally more bitter.
It's a general starting guide, but yeah you need to experiment if you want the best results.
A $20 digital coffee scale would help alot
