Toyota Kluger 2019/2020 or Toyota Kluger 2021

Hi Ozbargainers ,

I just got an invite from Toyota to express my interest in the new upcoming 2021 Toyota Kluger.

Quite excited, but I’m pretty certain it’s going to cost $50k+

I do want the Hybrid, but based on reading reviews etc, It usually takes 5 years to make up the extra costs in fuel savings when comparing to the Petrol Model due to the higher premium you pay.

My questions:
1)’Does Hybrid costs more to service?
2) Should I buy a 2nd hand 2019/2020 model (as they come with 5 years warranty with Toyotas safety pack as standard across all models now I think) and save a heap on depreciation? Obviously it’ll be petrol.
3) my budget is $45k
4) I have either a 2015 Honda CRV or 2017 Honda Civic to trade in. Roughly $14-16k trade in.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks heaps!

  • From something spackback posted a while ago, it was 3 years in the camry, 5 years in the corolla to get the savings back. Being a v6, i don't see why it wouldn't be 5 years. Regardless, do you not plan to own the car for more than 5 years?

Considering you trade in cars after 3-5 years, might as well buy second hand to save on depreciation

    • I also don't see why you would put the CRV as a trade in option when you are considering a second SUV because the hatch is too small as per your other post?

  • What did you end up doing? I am in same boat, i found a 2019 Kluger GX with 30k odometer and 3 year warranty left (comes with dual dashcam, foot steps, bonnet protector) for $42,000 drive away. But then for another 10K i can actually get brand new Kluger GX, which has better re-designed interior and has few additional new features in base model (e.g. Push start, front sensors, and slight better average).

    • I think because of COVID and lack of supply, Toyota vehicle depreciation has become almost zero.

    • To think that dealers were selling brand new 2020 GXs for $41,990 driveaway when it was in runout this time last year…
