Can You Still Use eBay/Woolworths/Coles Gift Cards to Purchase Other Gift Cards?

Hello ozbargainers. I want to "buy now, pay later" a DeLonghi air conditioner at Good Guys. I cannot get the model I want anywhere as they're exclusive to Good Guys, so I would have to afterpay one of the aforementioned gift cards in order to do so. Good Guys only offers LatitudePay which I heard is a terrible service and my credit would be declined instantly as I am on welfare.

Because Afterpay does not offer Good Guys giftcards, I was wondering if there was a loophole that would allow me to purchase from Good Guys using afterpay to buy other giftcards? Any info would be much appreciated.

Instead of Afterpay, use the credit card attached to Zip to buy the gift cards?

    • I would need to sign up for Zip pay for that, and it would be unlikely that I would pass the credit check due to being reliant on welfare and being unemployed. Thanks though.

      • maybe buying an aircon is not a necessity? Maybe save up money first?

I live in a part of Australia where it's nearly 32-42 degrees celsius everyday. My existing portable AC died recently and the heat is unbearable. I really need to get one ASAP.

Saving up the money would take too long in this dreading heat. I don't have much income and out of a job since COVID, so I've been heavily reliant on afterpay for my essentials.

@dogbot: Thats pretty hot for Sydney

            • @WreckTangle: Are you based in the western region NSW? like past dubbo and all? The weather has not been anywhere like that anywhere in NSW, particularly Sydney.

saving probably is the best option as you will rack up afterpay late payment charges, costing you more. If you can't afford it, don't buy it yet. Many people live with just fans too

              EDIT: reply is for dogbot

  • Zip Pay does a soft check, no income threshold required.

I would rather believe many people using LP are terrible rather than LP itself.

Klarna is similar to Afterpay, and allows you to generate a card to use anywhere and pay it off over 4 instalments. I've stopped using Afterpay and only use Klarna now.

I had no idea this existed. Gonna check it out. Thanks heaps :)

edit: "we will perform a semi-hard credit check"

      R.I.P. Klarna's a no go too.

      • You can't just give it a go? You might be surprised what they will allow through.

        • I gave it a try about half an hour ago. Was instantly refused. Tried Zip as well and they also declined.

I don't have a bad credit history. Seems these lenders take being reliant on welfare very seriously.

Have you considered / are you eligible for the No Interest Loan Scheme for the low income?
