What's Your Go to Pre-Made Meal Company?

Hey,

Just wondering what companies people use for ordering meals? I really hate cooking, and it's just me.

I do training, so I prefer high protein meals even if their a little tasteless.

Just trying to find the most affordable? I use to buy Derrimuts $99 for 20, however their only 300g and basically contain no vegetables (tho I can add this cheap). I also search for Core for $4.50-5 sales at Supermarkets.

Just seems, the cheapest option is Core direct around $143 for 24 meals which is around $6 on a weekly.

Any other options out there? Otherwise I need a chest freezer and buy months at a time.

I don't mind cooking here and there, but as I want to count my calories it's much easier to buy frozen.

Thanks :

  • my go to is my muscle chef but then i am trying to bulk up. Its probably not the cheapest option but it is very convenient for me

  • I used Hello Fresh to start off but portion sizes were too small for me. I'm a big Islander.

I then was with Youfoodz for 2 years. Their meals were good in the beginning but they removed all the dishes I liked so I just stopped. The founder's racist tirade too didn't help either.

    Maccas.

  • I use my musclechef as well and liked it. Foods can either be leaner or bulkier (more protein based I think). But its definitely more pricier then yours, closer to $9 or $10 a meal for the ones I get.

I like the taste though, feels actually cooked somewhere compared to the frozen meals I got from the shops.

    • Yeah, essentially you could end up buying two times the core meals for the price of one of those meals.

I think I'm stuck with a chest freezer and taking advantage of promos 😂😂😂

      • Have you tried core power meals? one of my mates tried them and said they were very dry and taste less compared to MMC but let me know how you go and based on your recommendation i might give them a try

        • They have many on offer, some are pretty decent.

I basically pay for Protein content, and Veggies. Most their meals are 40-50g P per meal, I am sure most of the $9-12 meals taste better tho!@

I grab the "on the menu" frozen meals at coles/woolies most often. Very tasty, and I usually find them on sale ~$2 each but the full price is still cheapest anyway. If you want to save money just go to coles and buy one of every frozen meal they have. Try them all until you find what you like.

    • what is the protein/carb/fat content on these typically?

I am not a bodybuilder so I don't remember that detail in my head. They're something like ~1000kJ each, that's all I remember. That info is probably available online somewhere though.

        • thanks mate.. will check them out

@FiDad: I get the "snack" size ones, around 300g - their "adult" meals are bigger, and probably unhealthy overall but these do me well taking to work for lunches. Can't beat the price.

            • @wendellX: what are flavours you like?

              • +1

@FiDad: I eat cottage pie and ragu pappadelle probably 90% of the time, but the spaghetti, lasagne, fettuccine etc are good too I just like eating the same thing everyday… Only one I don't love is the veggie lasagne, but it's still "tasty" I think. Must be loads of salt.

                • @wendellX: nice. yeah i am like you, i like eating same thing every day. Gotta check out the protein content on these and if it looks right definitely jumping on them

The reason I look for some of these non-supermarket companies is they normally contain less preservatives, colours etc

Generally, it's a fresh meal and it's frozen. I think I'm stuck with Core meals on Sale, or Derrimuts. Aldi have some decent meals, you will also find the cheap meals on sale at Coles/Woolies normally have very low Protein content, and barely any Vegs.
