Upgrading from an Samsung Galaxy S10e

I've been using an s10e since it was released here.

I feel like an upgrade, not sure what to look at though.

Is there an equivalent in the 21 line up?

There was a FE edition in the previous gen I think.

  • s21 base is the equivalent

  • I was also recently looking to replace my S10e because the screen had cracked and I was tossing up repair vs getting a new phone. My repair was covered by insurance so I had the option of taking the $360 payout to fix or replace.

Decided to repair the S10e because I couldn't find any comparable (high end) Android phone at the same size. The S21 is 6.2" vs the S10e 5.8" and to me the S10e is just right (if not a bit too large) so I didn't want to go bigger.

Following to see if you find a good option.

    • In the same boat, really would prefer a small phone but with good hardware.

    • Similar boat.. Don't want a huge phone, prefer a smaller phone with high end processor and ram.
Don't see the point in spending 1k on a phone for a better cpu but only an extra 2gb ram

Phones haven't got much better since the S10 series.

The S21 will lack things that the S10e came with, like SD card and headphone jack or a charger and case in the box.

Sorry, there are NO UPGRADES from the S10e. As in, there is no better phone than the S10e.

That means a phone which is:
    - compact
    - flagship processor and camera
    - waterproof
    - practical features (eg Headphone Jack)

All the S20 and S21 phones are significantly larger, and lose practical features. If you're okay with that, then you can go ahead and downgrade from your S10e. Though you'll get a couple niceties for that; newer software, faster processor, sharper camera, maybe faster screen, but that's about it all other aspects are equal or worse.

    edit:
whoops, my bad there is actually ONE device that is a direct upgrade from the S10e. The Sony Xperia 5 mk. II
It's compact, waterproof, full of features, and boasts flagship processor and camera.

That Sony's significantly taller and a little heavier than the S10e.

As an S10e owner, I'm much more attracted to that iPhone 12 Mini, which is even smaller and lighter, though not keen switching to iOS. Hope it's a success though and gives renewed credibility to the idea of a compact Android flagship instead of small phone fans being stuck with afterthought models again.

      • Width is really what dictates how 'small' the phone is, not how tall. Xperia 5 ii will feel as small as the S10e except you have so much more screen due to the extended aspect ratio.

Going to a Snapdragon chipset from Exynos will also be a massive upgrade.

          I totally forgot about iPhones.
The 12 Mini is smaller than both by a notable amount. The iPhone 12/Pro is actually closer in size to the above two phones mentioned.

The Sony is basically same thickness and weight as the S10e, but the Sony is 2mm narrower (most important) but 16mm longer (important), so overall they're about the same size.

          (smallest to largest)
          Sony XZ1c ~ Sharp R2c ~ iPhone 12 Mini < S10e ~ Sony 5.2 ~ S20 ~ iPhone 12 ~ S21
