Back Support Cushions vs Ergonomic Chair

Hi all,

I am looking for some advice as I have been experiencing some lower back pain from working long hours at home in front of the computer.

I have an alright leather office chair but I am not sure if it is worth upgrading to a full ergonomic office chair (any recommendations?) or going a bit cheaper and getting one of Memory Foam Seat Cushion or a Memory Foam Back Pillow

Has anyone had experience with any of these cushions or have any specific reccomendations?

Thanks for your help!

not everything that is ergonomic is ergonomic.
I had a DX-racer gaming chair that was advertised as ergonomic with a lumbar pillow that was supposedly designed to support the back. Its absolute hot garbage for the back. I have found that even the $100 ikea chair does better than the overrated $500 chair.
    Definitely try before buy

  • I have a Steelcase ergonomic chair, and also find it improved by adding a lumbar cushion.
I would start with a cushion and see how you go.

The best chairs for me have been Aeron and Mirra models from Herman Miller, but even second hand they are costly.

So a good idea to start with lower cost solutions.

  • I have the Memory Foam Seat Cushion as well as the Muji lumbar pillow. At first, the seat cushion was miraculous, but over time the material degrades. I'm currently tossing up replacing my seat cushion or paying up for an Aeron or Ergohuman office chair. I ended up just using the seat cushion and putting the lumbar pillow away as a properly positioned seat cushion should aid you in correct posture. Agree with the advice above about starting with a cushion and then working your way up from there. Best of luck - unfortunately we're not evolved to spend long hours sitting down.

  • Thanks all for your advice! Have decided to start with the seat cushion.
