What's your favourite Cointreau use? I like a Kamikaze (equal measure vodka, cointreau and lime juice, shaken over ice)

We make a version of tiramisu with Cointreau instead of Tia Maria and it is unreal.

      • Uhhhhh, yep. When you get a sec; recipe please?!

Here's what I use. Sorry, the pages are a bit dirty - that book has been thrashed.

I use So Good vanilla ice cream, Tofutti cream cheese, and where it says soft it means silken tofu. (Tofu in cream sounds weird? Try it. But you need a good blender to smooth - I use a Vitamix).

For the Cointreau version you can sub the 1/2C coffee with 1/4C water plus an extra 2 or 3 shots of Cointreau, or keep the coffee - I've tried both, both good in their own way.

Cleaning the bowls with the browned cutoffs of the cake is a lot of fun too. Have fun.

      • That sounds fabulous! Great idea

Sex in a cup: 30ml cointreau over ice with lemonade and a slice or lime.

Yes it's just over ice with lemonade but if you say it loud enough next to a pretty thing at the bar her ears will prick up.

    • Even with soda it's awesome

G&T and this would be my favourite drinks

  • I upvoted as I love this in margherita's, even though I live in Adelaide and we are not allowed to have alcohol in our Aldi.

  • Up your margarita game by topping up with a splash of grand marnier! You wont regret it!

    Please! Just drink it straight!

      WINNER….

Yes! Little sips over a long period of time, it's as good as Drambuie.

      • Actually, (despite what I said above) try a 50:50 mix WITH Drambuie. Nectar of the Gods!

    Is this Halal?

    • +3

It's alcohol. If there such a thing as halal alcohol or are you just being dumb?

      🙄

      • Any ethanol produced by anaerobic fermentation and ranging between 1 and 15% is considered to be Haram (non-Halal, Forbidden), whereas ethanol produced by natural fermentation and less than 1% is considered as preserving agent and its Halal status is allowed

        • +2

Well it's 40% alcohol so somewhat over 1%. Haram

Sounds like you already know the answer. Why even ask? Obvious troll

          • @yoshi864: Trolls are a myth, I found this out the hard way when I visited Norway and they told me it was just folklore :(

      • there is such thing as halal cleaning spray so their question is not outrageous considering "halal certified" gets plastered on everything needlessly these days.

  • Is there a everyday-cheaper equivalent of Cointreau? At Dan, at Aldi? Ta

    • +1

Just mix approx 2 thirds vodka to 1 third Dry Bitter Orange syrup….trust me, the difference is almost indistinguishable! (especially in a cocktail, obviously) So much cheaper!

      • Where can you get this?

    • +3

      Vok Triple Sec

  • +1

FYI $50 on amazon. not cheaper but you could consider it a $3 "delivery fee" if delivery is your thing. Only 2 left as in stock as of now though
Edit: don't forget shopback or cashrewards currently 7.5% back. Basically the same price then.

  • wish they had grand marnier on special, it’s lower in sugar than cointreau.

  • Usually buy it from Dan Murphy, $49.95 is the standard price. Plus 5% off from gift cards and 4% on shopback brings it down to about $45.50 a bottle, but then you have to factor in delivery. Probably easier to grab it from your local Aldi, but it's not a massive savings

  • If in Qld you can get DOM Benedictine on clearance for $54.60 at BWS. Other states are $78. Not lots of stock but still some around.

Dan Murphy's has now updated their price to 46.95

  • We've migrated to Vok Triple Sec for use in cocktails and haven't really noticed the difference. Yes there is a difference, but if it tastes fine in a cocktail why pay more?

  • Cointreau also great for soaking strawberries in to go with your icecream.
