These celebrity burgers are getting out of control

  • Phone is fine

Rebel is that the fake meat thing

    • +4

Yeah, it doesn't contain animal meat.

      • +3

        Isn't all meat from animals?

        • +1

Whilst modern connotations suggest that, historically this is closer:

          FOOD
especially : solid food as distinguished from drink
b: the edible part of something as distinguished from its covering (such as a husk or shell)

        • Yes.

        • +1

Well, sometimes the soft internals of a fruit/vegetable could be referred to as the meat, as opposed to the skin. As a synonym of flesh I think. And now that there's vegetarian versions of most animal meats, which are common, it's fine to specify to help differentiate.

        • No, vegan meat does not contain animal parts.

      • +1

I actually quite like it. The texture and flavour are certainly different. It's less greasy/fatty and they've added a noticeable smoke flavour. I don't think I'd mistake it for meat but I like it. YMMV, especially if you like what the beef fat brings to the burger.

^ this. Omnivore here. Accidently ordered when it popped in the app a couple of months back. Didn't realise is was a vege alternative until halfway through (although as Collutio says, there is a difference for sure, not noticed in the feeding carnage until halfway through the burger). Existential crisis now well underway. Would order again.

          • +5

@innocent bystander: Hey, there's no reason you can't order it sometimes even if you aren't vegan. I'm not either and think they're great.

    • +1

Have you actually tried one Bagman

    • Yeah it's pretty good

  • +1

Nothing much exciting about those prices.

    • +1

A tasty $9 vegan junk food meal is good value.

Is the Big Jack any good? Better than the Big Mac?

    • +4

Yes to both. It's noticeably bigger and the patty tastes smokey like all HJ patties, but the rest of it is very big Mac'ish.

      • +2

The burger itself is great, but the sauce they put on it is gross.

        • The sauce isn't as good as maccas. It's got a weird sweetness to it.

    • I Thought maccas was sueing hungry jacks over the big jack…

  • Can you remove the cheese off the rebel whopper?

    • +1

Yes you can remove everything if you want.

      • +6

        ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

      • Giggidy.

    • I believe it is vegan cheese by default and they serve no cheese if not available. At least in my own experience.

      • +1

The rebel whopper gets normal cheese unless you specify vegan cheese. The vegan burger gets vegan cheese by default. If you want the burger to tick that box you'll need to ask for vegan mayo too. I'm all for plant-based food in my own life but 'vegan cheese' is an abomination imho.

        • Thanks for the correction. It's clearly nowhere near as tasty as animal product cheese but I find it better nothing. Hits that spot of "I need something melted on my food".

          • +1

@zcn: That's fair enough then; glad it hits that spot for you. If we all liked the same thing there'd be no variety anyway :)

            • +1

@Collutio: And no torturing and death of animals :)
Rebels taste pretty good IMO, can't recall ever getting one with cheese

    • There’s a 2 for $9 rebel whoppers (without cheese) in the vouchers section of the app.

  • All the rebels go to hungry jacks before bail reporting.

  • +1

Rebel Whopper is quite good, although the meat is more sausage flavoured than beef. Still, it's a perfectly good substitute.

    • How is it compared to beyond patties

  • This is all I ever wanted in life :')

  • +4

Bit of a rant, but the Android app has been so laggy in recent months. Scrolling the menu, images of the products not loading, it's just not a great experience. I wish they would fix this.

  • +1

Rebel Whopper is good. It would be better if the rebel patty was across their full range as an option, because I'm a fan of their other burgers with bacon(I know it defeats the purpose of a veggie patty), onion rings, different sauces, etc. They will get there eventually though, I imagine.

  • I have the following Vouchers:
