NVMe Drives All Bending. Why Is This?

Have a Gigabyte x570 motherboard with 3* m.2 slot on the board… All have aluminium heat shield on them.

  1. Intel 660p no heat shield and not bending - screwed in.
  2. Sea gate firecuda bending with hear shield on and screwed on
  3. GB aureus pcie 4.0 with heat shield and screwed on.

Why are the two bending near the pin slot but the Intel had no bend?

Anyone else have this issue?

Some motherboards have a standoff that should be used as seen in the image below. Otherwise screwing straight into the MB will cause it to bend.

I'd also be inclined to say that the heatsink on the 2 would be adding extra weight causing it to bend, unlike the Intel that had no heatsink.

  • There are 13 X570 boards shown on the Gigabyte web site so I looked at the manual for the first one.

    From the manual

Follow the steps below to correctly install an M.2 SSD in the M.2 connector.

Step 1: Use a screw driver to unfasten the screw and standoff from the motherboard. Locate the proper mounting
hole for the M.2 SSD to be installed and then screw the standoff first.

Step 2: Slide the M.2 SSD into the connector at an angle.

Step 3: Press the M.2 SSD down and then secure it with the screw.

  • Did you pre screw your motherboards m.2 stand off screws? you usually manually have to add them. They should be in the motherboards box.
