Price Gouge - PS5 and Xbox Series X

Saw these in a window of a "second hand goods" shop at Tuggerah Westfield on the weekend.
PS5 for $1,250 https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/179593/86627/ps5_gouge… and
Xbox series X for $985 https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/179593/86628/xbox_goug…

Can't understand the pricing - ok, so no stock at retail locations and not even an ETA available but still, a 40% increase over RRP (on the PS5) and it is used???

Worse was, in store they had a sign saying they would buy your PS5 for $900 and would sell you one at $1,315!!

    It's CEX… Normal.

Yeah they use a database fed by all their stores to set prices according to actual supply and demand.

What you're seeing is not price gouging, just the actual price these are selling for on ebay/scumtree/etc (with a fixed percentage automatically added so they actually make some profit).

It's a much better system than the arbitrary I-didn't-even-google-it prices picked out of thin air by pawn shops, and results in CEX having some good deals on a lot of stuff.

  • Typical pawnbrokers, they live off the fact a lot of people made an impulse buy and need to get rid of it quickly

    • If someone impulse bought the console they'd make a profit since the store pays $900 ($150 over RRP) for the console

So would rather they make no money out of the transaction, bear all the risk the product is faulty/unsellable and just waiting there during a world wide shortage so when you are ready you can buy the PS5 at your leisure?

Just for you man, the world revolves around you.

You might actually get a brand new one since they're paying people above RRP for the console.
