What do you get as a gold member?

    • +2

Seems to just provide a more streamlined booking process.

The benefits of Hertz #1 Club Gold:

      • Experience a hassle-free and fast track rental service.
      • Enjoy privileged and personal treatment every time you rent a Hertz car.
      • Dedicated reservation and customer service agents.
      • Faster reservations – however you choose to make a booking, be it online or via the phone, you’ll spend less time doing it.
      • Faster rentals – just present your driver’s licence at more than 1,000 Hertz #1 Club Gold counters worldwide. Your paperwork will be ready and your car waiting at the closest parking bay.
      • Exclusive email offers.

      James Bond chasing you.

That's Powers, Austin Powers.(Danger is his middle name)

Guess it's OK to point to this but it's been free for a long time now. That said I've found it worthwhile with better service and faster checkout.

    • +5

that's about it. no other benefits

    • If you look here this is an example of the "special offers" - https://images.hertz.com/edms/au/dec11/index.html

      • I found better offers to the public in NZ rental than the Gold member prices. So I had to purposefully sign out on the site to access the better prices. Always check

Just a warning. A CC number Must be entered to enrol and I think it is only free for the first year so don't enrol unless you will be using the membership.

    • Can anyone confirm its only free for the first year? I can only find it stating "The annual membership fee of $60 is waived."

      • +1

I have had one of these for about 5 years and never been charged an annual fee. I think the t&c's say somethign liek the annual fee will be waived until further notice. If you pick up your car from an airport it is great. You go straight to the carpark, find your name on the screen, jump in the car allocated and present your licence as driving out, it is faster than a Macca's drivethrough.

Hertz offer this several times per year. I've found you get much better special offer emails/promos when you are a gold member (last one I used was 50% rental discount on prestige range - C200 Merc for $57/day!)

    • that is a good deal
edit- not so good, read comment below

    does a fake cc work?

      • +1

umm… i dont think he actually owns a fake credit card, i think he's just asking if you can type in any old number just to activate membership (without the worry of resubscription surprises on your credit card bill).

        • +4

It doesn't work , so this is not a good deal for me ,

Credit Card Number - Credit card number is invalid. [NZX009]

I won't neg it just yet to avoid being flamed, but this is not really a good DEAL for OzB'rs as Hertz are just counting that people will forget to cancel their membership at the end of one year.

Good deal for hertz, not so good for us

        • Well they probably apply a checksum test on the number so it can't be any old number.

        • It's permanently free. I've had it for a couple of years. They just say it's usually $60 to make people think they're getting something for free. A bit of a scam/dodgy kind of differentiation between the other rental companies to me

        • yes all credit cards have a checksum (the last digit), its not hard to create a plasable one, just google it.

    • +1

Maybe you could try a prepaid Visa gift card?

  • I don't see the point of this since there are no discounts to the rental price

Enjoy privileged and personal treatment every time you rent a Hertz car.

Lol what? Are they gonna lay a red carpet from the time I pay at the counter till I reach the car.

    • +3

Somebody carries you to the car then buckles you in.

  • I signed up years ago for this on a similar deal. I've never been charged a membership fee, so should be fine. In regards to the benefits, as outlined above there's additional promos that are just for members which can save quite a bit (especially on weekends).

As for the privileged treatment, if you pick up rental cars from airports it definitely makes a difference. It's nice being able to just walk straight out to a waiting car, hop in and then just flash your ID on the way out, rather than getting stuck in what can be lengthy queues at the counter. Not quite the red carpet treatment but certainly a time saver.

    • did you have to give your CC when you signed up at that time?

      • Yes, I had to give a credit card number and my drivers licence details. So if either of those aspects are a concern it's probably not worth signing up.

  • -2

do not like to give my cc details for no reason, beware!

    • +2

The whole idea of the gold membership is quick service, the reason they ask for a credit card is so that you don't have to fill out the forms at the counter. They are pre-filled so all you do is show you license and receive the keys and completed paperwork.

I have had a gold membership for years through a corporate account. Very easy, and convenient, if you travel a lot.

The problem I find with car rentals in here is that when you want a car for one day you end up paying for two days. It's same with Avis as well. That happened to me couple of times. You basically pay for one extra day. In US we can drop keys through the door after office hours so that they collect them next morning and only charge until the previous day.
However in Australia unless you can return the keys before they close their office and they see the keys dropped in next morning they charge for the next day as well. That was my last experience as well and it was about 2 years back. After that I never had to rent a car. Not sure if it's any different now.

  • This isn't really a bargain. It's an offer that's being given perpetually for free as it has been for years. They never charged anyone the annual fee and they never will. Just get it if you need to rent a car, I doubt its going to end any time soon

  • Gimmick!! Don't waste your time with overpriced Hertz. Just goto arguscarhire to get the best deals anywhere with any company.

  • How is Hertz's service comparable to its competitors?

Anyway, I've noticed that the site below(a reseller) offers better deals.

    http://www.vroomvroomvroom.com.au/

  • these guys are a NIGHTMARE to unsubscribe from. its been free since ever, and i regret having joined them. spam spam spam, and to unsubscribe is a long freaking form asking for driver's license id, membership id, why you want to opt out etc.

i'd neg vote if i could.

  • I use drivenow.com and have found that on the one occasion I did hire a hertz rental, it was cheaper to book thru this website than thru hertz directly. Mind you, the convenience of being able to go directly to the vehicle instead of having to queue with the kids at the counter, filling in paperwork, is certainly swaying me lol

great post, just got my gold membership.

I hired cars from Hertz many times for business trips during this year and can see that the gold membership is worth it if you can get it for free. Travelled with a mate that has a membership and within 5 minutes and we are out of airport. When by myself - ie no membership - I have wait at the main counter in the airport to do paperwork. Sometimes this could be 15-30 minutes in the queue. Once I was behind this oversea student and the Hertz staff had to explain every single option to her slowly ! Nothing annoy you more on a start of a business trip when it took only 5 minutes to get out of the plane after it landed, and had to wait for 30 minutes at Hertz desk on a Monday morning rush.

Work just issued a business CC so signup for one now.
