Can You Paint Exposed Aggregate Concrete

Hi I have recently pressure cleaned my driveway and was going to seal it with dulux avista exposed aggregate sealer . I was wondering if I am able to paint it and match it with my roof colour and the rest of house colour . Could someone shed some light on if this will be a good idea ? If yes , can you please tell me what type of paint would be ideal and where can I buy it
Thanks

  • Thanks ,do you know if this could be applied directly as I have just pressure cleaned my driveway , I mean do I need to put the dulux avista sealant prior to applying this ?

visit your local paint store and pose your questions to them. they'll be able to steer you in the right direction.

Seems like a strange choice, isn't exposed aggregate quite exxy?

On a driveway too I imagine you'll be repainting it every few years to keep it in good nick. Better to just pressure clean every year, unless you really want it to match the roof!

    It'll look awful OP

    Why?

Even when carefully prepared and applied it will be a pain to maintain.

As others have said, don't do it. Exposed aggregate is desirable, and painted concrete looks just like…. painted concrete.

Why noy ask Dulux? They have trade centre and call centre.

I'm sure you can paint it though perhaps not after applying a sealer as the paint wouldn't be able grab on so would peel away in a short time. You can get tinted sealers so perhaps that's something to look into.

Agree with others, why would you want to do this??

I had a brilliant idea about 5 years ago, I'll paint my concrete pathway to match my 'bluey grey' retaining wall!
Worst thing I ever did, now I have to repaint every year, direct sunlight on painted concrete is not a good mix :(

Painting your exposed aggregate driveway would be like having beautiful old thick oak floorboards with a complex grain and instead of taking advantage by sanding and polishing them, covering them with cheap carpet.

Already looking forward to your post next year "Can you remove paint from aggregate concrete?"

OMG I choked on my sandwich when I read this post 😂

  • Is it actually exposed aggregate or exposed rubble like my driveway after 20 years of abuse?
