I have been looking around for a good 5kw solar system deal. Solar Link Australia are offering an end of year $2,000 discount on their 5kw systems if you mention their google ad. Under $10k for 5kw solar system fully installed (or $11,600 if you want the SMA inverter)!

Haha, I read that as "5kg Solar System", as in a 5kg Solar System kit of planets, moons and the sun!

Edit: Seriously, negs? Is it because it's "off-topic"? :(

I think its because you made a lame joke, then made it lamer by explaining it. Just saying :)

Awww, I didn't even intend to make a lame joke! :P

When I saw the title I seriously thought it was a model of a solar system on sale! Maybe I've been researching science museums and planetariums too much recently.

I saw Solar Systen and got excited… then I saw the price :(.

  • greater than 30 year life expectency advertised yet only a 5 year warranty. If you advertise a 30 year life term doesnt that get close to binding you to a 30 year implied warranty (if the company is even around in 30 years)

    • but that's just it…. they 'could' offer 30 year warranty, and most likely not be around anyway. so in a way they are being honest- kinda :). 5 yrs is pretty good though, some of them only offer 12-24 months.

How long a warranty do you get on the average car? What sort of lifespan do you expect from that?

      • If it's a Hyundai, 5 years to both questions!!!

  • Does the op have any further details on the 2k discount?
    link? Ad?

  • Guys, can you please help me understand why not simply wait for better systems to come in the next 5 years than install a 10,000 + system and pay for 5 years of the "Minimum electricity bill savings" of 1800 to 2200/year in advance?

    Ref : http://www.solarlinkaustralia.com.au/solar-power-qld/5-0-kwp…

It seems if the system is saving 1800 to 2200 a year in bills and the cost is about 10,000 installed, you would not see any benefit till year 6 when its out of warranty?

    • Who says a new system will be out in 5 years? And when it comes out, it probably won't be as cheap. No reason not to start now IMO

  • It seems like a pretty good deal. The only cheaper company I can find is Unleash Solar at $9k for a similar size system.

However, be sure to get a guarantee in writing when installation can occur. Some companies wait many months or even longer to install solar panels for customers. Check out this thread about Unleash Solar:

  • Here's a 3.6kw system for under $2000.

    http://www.truevaluesolar.com.au/specials-test/

    • 3.6 inverter only 1.5kw worth of panels and unleash solar you woudnt touch with barge pole…..need to do your research on this matter first

      • Arent all true value pricing based on signing over credits. Plus what they may sting you to add additional panels to maximise the size of the inverter.

        • Just about all company pricings include the signing over of the credits. The large inverter is just the hook to get you in so you can believe you will upgrade later although thats not always as easy as first thought.

  • For those in WA you can get 4.4KW for $5991

    http://www.awomansspark.com.au/?page_id=304

They install 2 x 2.2Kw systems so you get 2 inverters and can even install the panels on different roofs.

  • Im not sure about all this. How long till you actually start cutting your costs and saving money, is it really worth it?

    • is it really worth it?

Hmmmm! Well as God (being 'channelled' by Bill Cosby) said to Noah: "How log can you tread water?"
