In need of a trickle charge for my motorcycle as the battery depletes fairly quickly cause of the electronics and alarm system on the bike. Feel free to share your thoughts. • Haven't bought one yet but some people recommended the Victron chargers.

    • Never heard of Victron but will look into them. Thanks

Defiantly get yourself a trickle charger
Your best bet would be the CTEK’s. I personally would go a 5amp one at a minimum as it would also double as a descent battery charger unlike the 0.8amp one you listed because it would take a lot longer to charge a flat battery .

    • Yeah I definitely need one. Dont really want to be buying batteries every so often. Sounds like Ctek mxs5.0 is the way to go from your suggestion and pantsparty.

  • Ctek MXS5.0 - you are welcome.

    • Thank you

  • I got a projecta 0.8 one for free otherwise I would have bought either of these. I use it on the jet ski so a deal breaker was to have the terminal rings that stay on with a plug rather than just alligator clips.

Pretty sure 5 amp is way too much to keep your battery maintained. I heard a lot of people say 0.8-1.5 max but YMMV.

After charging it goes into a trickle charge mode to keep it fully charged, it does not do a continuous charge at 5amps as it would boil the water away.
THe CTEK MXS 5.0 - 12 Volt, 5 Amp battery charger is an eight step charger and the last step is trickle

    • I thought that too. 5 amps is too much for a motorcycle battery. But other users are saying it trickles after it charges. Its safe to say mxs5.0 is a clear winner lol.

From what I can gather, it depends on size of battery. Car would be fine at 5amp I guess but your motorbike battery is smaller.

You're trying to charge equal to natural discharge for longevity of the battery. So while 5amp will work, you're putting in faster than what's coming out. (As I understand it).

I don't know the science, just got told 0.8-1.5 for jet ski/motorbike.

This is unless the 5amp one charges at a lower rate in the 8th step??

    • MXS 5.0 has a motorcycle battery mode that charges at 0.8A maximum. It's a great charger for cars and motorcycles. The only downside is that it doesn't have a lithium battery charging mode.

      • So if you want to switch between cars and motorcycles, then the MXS 5.0 is the clear choice. If it is only for motorcycle/jet ski (as in my case), the 0.8 is probably a better buy at roughly half the price.

  • Ctek mxs5.0 goes on sale often so keep an eye on this forum. I ended up buying the nico 7200. Once the battery is fully it will trickle charge. Keeps my 4wd dual battery charged

    • Will do. Love a good bargain. Nico i hear is a good reputable brand thats why ive chosen between the two. Ill look into the nico 7200 as well.
