I got off them for a while too for the same reasons. Tried using Dorco (AKA Dollar Shave Club) razors which were much cheaper and they did an OK job but after going back to the Gillette Fusion there is a very noticeable difference in the closeness/quality of shave. Sucks about the price and wokeness but as someone who shaves 5 times a week for work it's a cost of living that I just have to accept.
Get a double edge safety razor, and you will never come back to overpriced gimmicky multi-blade refills.
Replacement blades are dirt cheap too.

@Aussybob: Not really. I think it basically cleans it. At a microscopic level, the blade edge gets coated in skin and soap. This thing gets rid of that.
Do people still shave? WFH I don't bother.
