it's really not a great deal, most don't need anywhere near that much data, buy outright below rrp & go on a sim only plan

    s21 5g 128GB $2028 over 12m
    s21+ 128gb $2316 over 12m
    s21 ultra 128gb $2628 over 12m

Bummer, to be honest when posting for once I had thought that $600 is additional credit for getting a S21 phone i.e. in addition to the already discounted XL plan. But you're right. Still a good plan for heavy data users (and there are quite a few) who need to be on Telstra though. Atleast the credit is towards the phone/plan cost instead of making additional (and often unnecessary) purchases in JB/TGG.
Plus there is a 7 day price beat, so it can be used best when a competitor is running a discount (I.e. double dip).

still way better off with JB 150GB plan

        s21 5g 128GB $1587 over 12m (incl $399 upfront)
        s21+ 128gb $1887 over 12m (incl $699 upfront)
        s21 ultra 128gb $2187 over 12m (incl $999 upfront)

If you call telstra they can offer you that deal but instead of the 12-month lock-in, you are put on their month to month plan aren't locked in. I also convinced them it was the 256Gb model for $999, not the 128Gb

They will push back saying go to jb but after awhile they give up and do the deal themselves

          • +3

@Thunder-Wombat: Why did you lie to telstra saying it was the 256gb version?.. It clearly states 128gb on the jb website.

You seem to have a way of convincing telstra lately that they owe you based on your recent iPhone 12 haul from their points pricing mistake. I, with a lot of ozbargainers were annoyed about that points pricing error on the Galaxy note 20.. But there seems to be a fair bit of self entitlement here. Just have to let some things go by being humble and not trying to deceive a business. I'm sorry, but I don't like that you've gone out of your way to purposely deceive the company on this S21 deal. Theres ways of asking nicely and hoping they'll upgrade you.

The XL plan is $65 per months. But you get $600 credit. So you are basically paying $15 pm for XL plan?
And full price for the handset?

    • +1

It's $115 a month. The $65/month you see is the already discounted price ($50/month for 12 months)

      • +1

Then it's certainly not a great deal since the SIM only XL plan already has that discount: https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/sim-only-plans.

But it also enables to pay that phone purchase cost over 12 or 24 months without any extra interest. And there is also 7 day price match if you notice a price decrease with a competitor or if you plan your purchase timing accordingly. Might help those who don't want to shell out a grand or two upfront.

Already includes the discount? That’s a bit misleading…

I will not get another contract with telstra, their customer service is very very bad.
They won't reply your complain anymore and just trying to let you forget about it.
Their signals are some how worse than Optus, there are a lot high rise buoldings in Melbourne CBD have no signal at all while my wife's Optus has signal.
I signed up with gift card Too but now feels like being locked to it.
