  • Comes up as $5.49 for me :(

    • I have already download it and it's free.

    • Works for me

    • Hero of Sparta is $5.49 but Hero of Sparta II is free.

  • I got this game a few years ago on my iPhone 3G and it was great, but runs terrible now. need to upgrade my phone.

It's only free because they have enabled ads. If you bought this and then update, you will also be stuck with ads.

    • yeah what the fuck? can someone confirm this

  • +2

yeah… they've made the game free but thrown in a whole bunch of ads.

The one thing I've found after jumping ship to the IOS (from android) is that the app store should better categorise the apps into trial (or cut down "free" versions), ad-supported free versions, and full (ad-free) versions. i.e. when you search for an app, you might see 12 different versions of the same game but its not immediately clear the difference between the versions. It's even more confusing when prices change regularly.

In this case, they should be made to state that its free because they have added advertising. I couldn't see one mention in the app description (I found out through App Shopper) … or even better a setting that says never show me any ad-supported app, or cut down trial "free" version either.

    • I'm fairly new to IOS as well

generally…i say generally because doesn't seem regulated at all …
if you pay for an app …there should be no ads
Lite = trial …may or may not have ads and/or limited functionality

if its free…there is a chance of ads and/or in app purchases
unless it actually says ad-free just assume there is
if it is free for today only…well basically just take a punt i guess

gizmodo (apps of the day) generally screen the apps of the days so its somewhat legit deal
      ie geniune free for today

Why do some here complain about a free app with ads. The developer spent a great deal of time to deliver an application/ game that you download in a seconds. You don't like ads then get a paid one.

    • I think a large part of the complaint is that if you previously paid for the and then download the latest update you will have both paid for the App and have to view the ads.

I don't have any problem paying for apps (pretty much 95% I've purchased because I don't want cut-down or ads in my apps). Just would like to know when something is "on sale" and is genuinely cheaper or free … and not because they have sneakily placed ads in as an "update". Not saying this isn't a bargain, but if they had of made the price cheaper without the ads I would prefer that option. I have plenty of apps so I just keep an eye out for apps on my "wanted list" for when they come down in price. I just find this behaviour dodgy, it shouldn't be difficult to clearly mark it as an ad-supported version.
