Hi guys, I'm looking for some advice here.
I'm thinking of getting a google pixel 5 after it drops in price.
One of the selling points for me is the free Google photo storage. I take alot of photos of my kids and so do my folks. The way it works is we love how Google photos comes with feature where albums can be shared, so we have albums shared amongst the family where everyone can contribute to the collection. I can't imagine what would happen after 1st July 2021 when Google starts making Google photos start counting towards space quota. if Google photo storage started to count I'm pretty sure even if I took out the 400GB option under Google 1, I think it would take less than 6 months to use it all up
I currently own a OnePlus5T and am happy with it but it is needed elsewhere in the work I do. So I justified to myself I should just wait for a price drop on the pixel 5 and pick one up
I'd like to get your thoughts on this, pros, cons, and also alternative ways
I'm aware that some of you will say the extra you pay for the pixel 5 could easily allow me to buy more data from Google for a long time. While this is true, I'm interested in the lifetime unlimited google photo storage space as a result of the pixel 5. Nothing lasts forever but this is a good start.

The areas I don't like about this is photos not taken by a pixel 5 counts towards storage space meaning that when my folks upload photos from their phone, that would count towards my storage space. I've read online of how people copy photos from other phones straight to their pixel 5 and then upload so that Google doesn't count this against their space
This sounds like a damn hassle so let me know your ideas.
Cheers!
You can get Google One Family, so add up to 6 members to hold their content in their own account but with a shared quota. Saves you the hassle of moving photos between phones before uploading (assuming it even works, because exif data will have the phone model in it). 2TB is about $125/yr.
The alternative is to set up your own NAS (Synology, Q-NAP) etc at home and copy all your photos to it. Downside is, there's no protection against theft or fire damage. I had similar issues with Photo management as well and settled on paying for Google One at the end. It's painless and the WAF for picture management is very high.
