(Solvol) Dropped The Soap Bar

https://solvol.com.au/products/

Regrettably the much-loved Solvol soap bar is no longer available due to manufacturing challenges.

What to do now? The Liquid one just isn't the same as giving a good scrubbing with a bar, and there's nothing to drop in the shower.

Does anyone know of an alternative?

Comments

  • They stopped making them ages ago, it might have 2019?

I stocked up when repco had them on clearance for 20¢, when those run out I will try the pumice soap that Bunnings sells.

and there's nothing to drop in the shower.

    Generally that's a good thing.

  • Oh no! What will poor Jeffrey do now?

    • Probably get Covid as he cant wash his hands after a hard days work.

  • Bunnings and auto stores would have similar alternatives.
We used to used the liquid dispenser at our workshop and it worked wonders.
There are many other gritty grease removing soaps on the market.

  • Looks like this if you want to keep in australia

Otherwise the lavasoap seems pretty much the same with pumice within it.
I think can be had off ebay pretty cheap

Can buy a whole box direct from manufacturer for about $1.10 each, might have to give it a try.

      • Grabbed the 3 pack, its no good, pretty much normal bar of soap with a bit of useless sand mostly for aesthetics.

Nasty shit that solvol. Better alternatives out there than this crap. Probably not making it any more because hardly anyone bought the crap. It just relies on removing the top 5 layers of skin to get to any dirt.

It's all about the "orange scrub" now. It works 100x better than those sanding blocks masquerading as soap as it actually breaks down the bonds in the grease and oil, not just by trying to sand it back smooth.

The two we use at work (heavy industrial workshop with grease, oil and dirt, etc) are Permatex Fast Orange for the ground in dirt and Deb Green for the medium duty muck and a hard, short bristle brush like a fingernail brush.

    • I like losing 5 layers of skin, sometimes! Have spoken to a few few tradies that also use it exclusively.

But i guess i don't get this choice anymore, nothing is available.

  • Mother Nature's Natural Solvol - I've used it for years - grab a hand-full of sand, rub it all around dirty hands, wash off with soap and water. Dry hands.

Not perfect but it does a good job, cheap too. :-)

Solvol is just soap with some grit in it anyway.

  • I was a mechanic yonks ago & I used to use Solvol, but I switched to something better - SARD Wonder Soap.
I got it in bulk from eBay, I bought a box of 27 for about $2 a cake, but there are none there now.
You can get it for $2.40 a cake at Amazon - https://www.amazon.com.au/Sard-Pre-Wash-Soap-Grams/dp/B077JS…

  • Envirofluid have a 100% Australian made replacement called GritMitts https://www.envirofluid.com/shop/janitorial-hygiene/personal…

    • You should consider sending out a few sample bars so that some of us can try them.
