Recommendations for Laptop for My Dad

Hey all,

I know laptop recommendations are asked a lot so forgive me for asking yet another. I haven't bought a laptop since 2008 (macbook pro … still kind of running) so my knowledge of recent models is extremely poor.

My dad is after a new laptop for his work. He works in finance and uses basic MS Office tooling plus some browser based online applications. He's currently using a Sony Vaio SVP13219PGB and has been a Sony fan for a while (not sure why). His current laptop is close to 6-7 years old.

His main, must have requirements are:
- 13 inch
- Touchscreen - doesn't need to turn into tablet/ removable but must have a touchscreen
- Lightweight - current Sony weight is 1.06 kg
- No specific budget mentioned but within reason

Any recommendation would be really helpful, or even just suggestions on brand e.g. dell vs lenovo vs hp

Vaio will be hard to beat in terms of quality - everything will feel bad quality in comparison. You can't get them in Australia as far as I'm aware. You could try importing one from Japan and the price would be reasonable but you'll have to support it yourself and that may include BIOS, not sure.

Toshiba still sell some high-end latops in Australia but otherwise most Japanese companies have pulled out in recent years. The Toshiba laptops that are available I haven't looked at but I'm guessing they'll be a lot heavier than what he is currently using.

Maybe have a look at the Dell XPS 13 - they have a touchscreen 2-in-1 that looked good but I just felt it was a little overpriced. I think they must be about to release some new models because everything is on sale at the moment.

@whirlpool_guy mentions expertbook but I don't believe they make a 13" model. the Zenbook however comes in verious 13" models. It's quite light (maybe not 1.06kg tho) and reasonably priced, decent build quality etc
