I've seen a few Ozbargainers mention these in comments before as being a good option for a WiFi garage door opener. At this price I figured I'd give it a go. Price includes GST - which is added on at Payment stage. Compatible with a lot of garage door makes and models - basically if your model supports a wired button then there's a good chance it'll be compatible. There's instructions on how to check this on the webpage.
Coupons like aliex178 or aliex437 may also work to give US$4 off if you are creating a new account via social media. Didn't try so if coupon works for you - please let us know in the comments.

EDIT: I asked Wofea for a clearer Compatibility List

    I bought one of these about 6-8 months ago and love it. So easy to setup and works perfectly!

  • +2

    Thanks OP. Grabbed one as had been waiting for the price drop after seeing the recommendations on here. Already had it ready to go in my cart too!

  • Has anyone tried using it with a steel-line sectional?

    Couldn't see any manual push button and nothing in manual either.

    https://www.steel-line.com.au/garage-door-openers/sectional-…

    • +3

      I got one and it works perfect. Have a lock on a ladder ontop of your unit there is a + and - input for the wires. Piss easy.

      • great thanks

        • +1

          Should be 2x + and 2x - inputs. Go for the first 2. Also for the sensor placements you can be creative.

            @Atomik17: https://ibb.co/NrRFkpy

            is it these ports in the image from the manual?

            edit - looks like those are for the Photo eye & 24v battery backup

            https://community.garadget.com/uploads/default/optimized/1X/…

            • @impoze: For me it worked by connecting to PB and COM ports.

            • @impoze: Yes, it is the red and white pin in the picture. I have this same SD800 model I am using this particular garage opener. It works for this garage model. But on the pin layout, mine is not shown as red and white but wall switch

            • +1

              @impoze: Where is says Photo eyes +/- use those for the input of the unit and make sure you get a good contact

              • @Atomik17: thanks, I guess the Photo eyes would do the same thing in manually triggering it open/close just that it has the their laser sensor thing.

              • @Atomik17: I tried shorting it but to no avail. Not sure if doing it right..

      • Can you please link a photo of the connection point?

      • @Atomik17 - Can you provide a detailed step by step guide how to configure this unit with the Steeline SD800 garage opener..am struglling to understand what to connect where?

        • +3

          Hi all, sd800 and sd1200 is the same as doorworks - the OEM for both is ztgd800. My model is the doorworks 1200.

          To connect wofea wifi, you will need to open the cover and connect it as though you are installing a wall switch to the garage opener. Opening the cover should be pretty easy and straight forward.

          Put the black and red wire into GND and Key point. The GND and Key connection points are shown in page 13 of
          this manual https://www.multikoeb.dk/images/products_pdf/229081150221876…

          I was able to fit the wifi switch inside the garage opener, and traced the sensor along the middle track, while the other part of the sensor is located where manual opener is located. Appearance wise it’s hardly noticeable.

          I still haven’t mastered the software part i.e getting it to work with IFTT.

          Also, I should note it must connect to the 2.4hz wifi. I have a mesh wifi and it didn’t work untill I connected to an older wifi router.

          • @RickC: great, it does look exactly the same but a much more detailed manual.

          • @RickC: Thanks very much for this RickC!

            For anyone needing help with the Steel Line SD800 with the Red White Photo Eyes connection. The device does not work when you just plug it in the top ports. As mentioned above, you will need to connect it to the GND port and Key port.

            However, the circuit board mentioned on page 13 is slightly different to this model garage door. It is pretty easy to open the unit to connect the wires.

            Unlock the light cover. Take the 2 screws out and it will pop open. Connect the red wire to the little Key port near the bottom right. You may need to affix it with sticky tape to hold it together as it just goes into a small hole (you can put the red wire through the sensor port so you can close the box later). Connect the black wire to the 2nd Black port on top of the garage near the red/white photoeyes.

            It should now work. Let me know if you need help.

            Cheers.

    • Would like to know too.

      I just had a look at the unit and on the top right hand side of the unit (when facing the door) there is a 240v, COM, and 2 receiver ports.

      • yeah, looks like there is no push button on these models.

        https://community.garadget.com/uploads/default/optimized/1X/…

        • Do you have its user manual?
          I looked in their website bur they haven't have any.
          Im guessing that there should have a provision of connecting wired button and the best way to locate them is to unscrew the top plate and lookfor something that can connect to the wireS
          Connect one end of wires to test and Just trip the other ends once. See of it changed the status of your garage, of so, thats the connecting sockets you need to use for this product

      • Use the COM input

    • I have a steel line with 4 ports, red white photoeyes and backup battery plus and minus ports. Last time I checked it doesn't work with this door

      • +2

        I bought one. Some other wifi garage door controllers have suggested to use steel line remote.

          I just got the device and managed to make it work without using any external items or adjusting the garage remote.

            @ekto: Mind uploading some photos?

            Mine just arrived, will try set it up tomorrow

            • @impoze: I knew I should have taken a photo!

              I've put it all back together now, ill try explain it a bit better. If not, I can do it tomorrow.

              Turn off the power switch to the garage door first just to be safe. Try at your own risk.

              Open the lightcover first. There is a little latch which you push in a bit.

              Once off, you will see 2 screws just to the left and right of the garage light bulb. Unscrew and then the bottom cover will come off. There will be still a wire connected from the circuit board to the cover. I just let it rest by its own weight, it should be fine.

              Before connecting any wires, put through the red wire into the hole that the Garage sensor wire is coming out from. This ensures the unit closes properly once finished.

              Now, on the circuit board, if it looks like the one in RickC's comment, then you should connect it that way.

              However, if it doesn't look like that, you will need to put it in the "Key" hole on the circuit board. If you are facing the garage door itself, this little hole will be on the bottom right of the circuit board. Use the RED wire for the "Key" Hole. I had to cut a little off the red plastic to expose more wire for a better connection. Put the wire into the key hole. I curled it like a hook to hold it in place. I then stick taped the red wire cord to the plastic inside the unit so it doesn't move.

              Now, the Black wire will just connect on top of the unit itself to the "White Photoeyes" port. Refer to picture, (https://community.garadget.com/uploads/default/optimized/1X/…)

              Turn the power back on to the wofea device and garage door.

              Once you have connected both, press the on/off button on the Wofea device. It should open.

              I set up my device with the TuyaSmart app before connecting the wires, it was just connected to the power.

              • @ekto: All good,

                I was able to do it after following your instructions.

                I totally forgot to take a photo as well.

                • @impoze: Good work!

                  • @ekto: now to see if I can integrate it into home assistant

                    • @impoze: It's really easy. You can do it straight from the tuya smart app

  • Does this require a pin or is it just ok google open the door etc ?

    • +13

      You don't want without pin…
      By yhe way where is your street address?

      • You dont need a pin, i have no pin on my iSmartGate opener its secure.

        • +1

          No it's not. Without a PIN it's definitely not secure. If you have any Google Home or Echo devices in your house, all anyone needs to do is shout "Hey Google, open the garage" for it to trigger.

          • @trankillity: this assumes it is exposed as a door, rather than as a switch. In my case using a different but similar product, the controller is exposed as a switch, and thus it isn't possible to add a pin.

          • +3

            @trankillity: Yes i do have Alexa devices all over the house, but no if you yell "Alexa, open the garage door" nothing will happen as that's nothing like what you have to say. In fact i could just have that routine send me a push notification that someone is trying to break in to the garage lol.

            You have no idea what the phrase is to open or close the garage. Plus i have cameras around the house that notifies me before you get anywhere near the garage with push notification, live automatic thumbnail camera view on all TV's, and hue lamps around the house flashing a different colour depending on camera.

    Whats the support like for these with Hass.io / Home Assistant?

    • Its Tuya so a good chance, but cant confirm

      • Flash with ESPHome :) (assumes esp8266)

        • can this but flashed ota with tuya convert?

          • +1

            @windrc: I’m not so sure that tool works anymore but I’m more of an ESPHome fan than Tasmota fan.

            That being said you could always open it and wire up +3v, GND, TX, RX to your CH340G and hold IO00 to GND to enter flash mode

      I used homebridge - paste from another post my setup

      Installed, took a bit of tinkering but works with Homebridge

      Set your wifi to 2.4 and connect device https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrKM3TrSOpA

      For Homebridge, needed to set static IP in router as it was having discovery issues:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oq0JL_wicKg -> Read comments, grant all the permissions and you will get the id and key
      And install this plugin: https://github.com/iRayanKhan/homebridge-tuya

      Example Config for plugin:
      {
      "platform": "TuyaLan",
      "devices": [
      {
      "name": "Garage",
      "type": "GarageDoor",
      "manufacturer": "Wofea",
      "model": "Garage",
      "id": "2003646010521cc7abcd",
      "key": "c9f767d91394abcd",
      "ip": "192.168.50.210"
      }
      ]
      }

    • You probably need a plugin like this https://github.com/AlexxIT/SonoffLAN
      but be careful when you doing automation without a sensor to see if there is anything within the door or you get a damage car or kid with bad injury.

    • As it's Tuya I suspect you could the this custom integration from HACS. https://github.com/rospogrigio/localtuya

    What's people's use case for this?

    • +66

      To open garage door

      • +3

        Hahahahahaha

      • +2

        To close garage door

    • +10

      What I can think of is;

      1. Open garage door automatically when you approach home by the car set up with Ifttt or routine.

      2. Close door automatically when you leave home and forget to close it.

      3. When you lock yourself out then don't have to call locksmith. Ask your phone to open the garage.

      4. When you get delivery and noone at home. Combine with smart door bell and open garage to keep it safe.

      • I'm getting it for 1 & 4 mostly. I'm going to put one of my old XiaoFang Cameras in the garage as well, to keep an eye on the delivery guys.

      • Re: 4 - how would you set it up to not open the garage for Jehovah witnesses and other door salespeople?

        • You can see the Van and box in hand for delivery person. If not? No open then.

          • @JoshJ: How would that work when you're not home and it opens at the ring of a doorbell?

            Or are you meaning use the smart door bell to see who it is and open the garage for them yourself?

        • +3

          You could potentially use as a trap for those undesirables 😂

      • Use the sensor to trigger lights to turn on in the house when you get home.

      • Thanks - number 3 actually makes sense and could be quite useful!

      • So it determines when your phone is close enough and then opens?

        What if you say went on a walk to/from your house? I wouldn't want the garage to open/close when I'm on foot??

        • +1

          It's your creation of setting. If I say, I might set up if I am away from home more than 10km and approaching my place within 100m then open thr garage.
          There are some other options too. Such as when you are moving more than 20km/h and close to home within 100m then open.
          It all depends on you.

    • Replace lost remotes for garage doors where I can’t find a supplier for said remote. They just trigger the pins on the controller to open and close. Also has a sensor to tell you whether it’s open or closed.

    • to show off!

      • +1

        Door goes up.
        Door goes down.
        Door goes up.
        ???
        Profit.

    • It has a app that I can receive alarm if my garage door is open when I am travelling out of state.

      • +1

        Do you know how to make it send a notification after the garage door is left open for a certain time?

        • That you can't. It does not have that feature. But you can just check on the last log record whether it is open or close and you would know whether the garage door is still open.

    • +4

      To avoid fight with significant other as per: "Did you leave the garage door open?"

      • Thanks - this might be the one that actually applies to me haha

  • Anyone use this with a gdo8?

    • +1

      no, but works great with my gdo9

    • +1

      Grab a paperclip and short the 2 terminals labelled 'remote' or similar. This applies to all panel lift and roller doors. If the paperclip activates the door, this Wofea will work fine.

  • Anyone knows if it works with Chamberlain garage door opener???

    Will existing remotes still work with this??

    Need electrician for installation???

    • Have you got or can you add a manual button to open and close the door?

    • +1

      See frugalferret's coment above - grab a paperclip and check if that works.

      Existing remotes will still work

      No electrician needed

    • +1

      It does work with chamberlain, I tried today not sure where to place sensor.

  • Can confirm really good one. But the one I bought was usb powered.

  • Installed one of these over Xmas, super easy to do and I could install the reed switch on the chain so I didn’t have to take it all the way to the door. Works well, the one issue I have is that it sometimes goes offline 2-3 times a week, not sure if there is a way to make it reconnect after that or auto reboot . It works after a power cycle.

    • How easy is easy? My husband refuses to install one of these as he thinks the garage door needs replacing but I want to as I get paranoid he leaves the door open. Is it pretty dummy proof to install?

      • Yes, very easy.

  • +1

    Is this similar to sonoff?
    I am after one that can work with my sliding gate and garage door.

  • Do you have to use it with their crappy app?

    • No, use google I'd presume

    • +1

      Compatible with SmartLife/Tuya

    • I use the Brilliant Smart app.

  • +2

    Do these work with eco garage doors?

    Been looking for something like this but I’m not super handy.

  • Does anyone have a link to the compatibility garage door list? The picture in aliexpress is so blurry..

    Thanks

  • Still can't figure out how to use it 😜

    • +3

      Lol. I bought one 6 months ago. Still sitting in a box. I'm embracing the ozbargain spirit
