Haggling Chinese Cars - Haval H2 Premium

Does anyone know how much you can negotiate on a Chinese car such as Haval H2 Premiumwhich sells for $23990 RRP?

Some people on OzBargain say that they haggled 10%-15% off cars, does this still apply in 2021?

What would be a realistic price to start the negotiation with?

You don't really hate yourself and hate driving that much to get this, do you? Go back to your previous post and reconsider some of the suggestions: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/596998

    • b..b…but it projects its brand name onto the ground alongside the door!

    • This is interesting because 10 years ago, I'm sure most people would be saying the same about the current Korean competitors…

      • But it took 20 or more years for the Korean to become legit competitors. 80s Hyundai were cheap and nasty. 90s Kia the same.

        • I think with current rates of technology advancements versus in the 80s and 90s, its no longer the same comparison.

For example, Like comparing a dreame vacuum versus a Dyson. Its not that far off… or you could say its better in certain aspects.

That being said, I wouldn't buy a Haval, just don't like how it looks.

        • Yeah, but you're looking at the same brands evolving over time.

      • Exactly

    • -2

You don't even know what you are talking about do you?

      • Not sure why you're so aggressively defending this car/brand here. Don't really care either.

I've been to the Lansvale Haval and Great Wall dealer to have a look around out of curiosity to see the models they've ripped off others (the Haval FX7 is just laughable).

Crap cars, crap build quality, crap engines based on crappy tech that was already crap decade ago.

The Chinese produce many great cars. These are not one of them.

        • -2

Not sure why you are hating on a model you clearly haven't tested.

Because it is chinese and not japanese.

  • +2

    Get the i30 please.

  • +17

A realistic price is $0. Because when you try and sell it in 2 years, after realising it's a piece of shit, this is what you will be offered.

    • Depends how much fuel is in the tank

      • -1

Nice trolling, alot of free time on your hands I see.

  • +1

They are already cut price so unlikely to have a lot of margin for the dealer to play with.

Go in with a 15% off offer and let us know how you get on.

  • +6

    Don't… Just don't

    • Why? Have you ever driven one? Or just because it's Chinese?

      • Because it's a POS…?!

The build quality, the resale value, etc etc, is all enough for me to steer anyone away from it.

In all your research, how could you possibly think a Haval was worth you handing over your hard-earned for?

        • Because it costs the same as a Kia Rio and a Kia Picanto GT which are both POS compared to the Haval H2.

In my research the people saying Haval is a POS have never even driven one or been inside one so how can they judge?

Haval has been in Australia since 2015 so relatively new here, how can you say the re-sale value will not be good? Have you even looked at carsales? They hold their value pretty well.

It's really funny that you talk about build quality because I found the build quality way better than a Kia Cerato or Hyundai i30.

After test driving one and comparing it to other Jap or Korean cars in similar price range it is way better, I assume you have never looked at one in person?

How can you assume that in 5-10 years time they wont be competing with the big players?

          • @hussy4877:

Have you even looked at carsales? They hold their value pretty well.

Only H2 Premiums on Carsales are 2020/21 Plated, and already you could pick up a demo for $19,990 drive away, a $4,000 (16.7%) discount in an economical climate where the major brands barely discount, as they don't need to. How do you define that as "holding value"?

            which sells for $23990 RRP?

That's not RRP, that's the promotional price. RRP is $22,990 + ORC

After test driving one and comparing it to other Jap cars in similar price range it is way better

Ok, go on, buy one… Just don't come whinging when it's worth under $10k in 2 years.

            Enjoy.

            • @spackbace: Forgot to the mention the 5 start ANCAP

              https://www.ancap.com.au/safety-ratings/haval/h2/287435

Dont know why you are saying they have sh!t build quality.

You didn't tell me if you have ever been in one?

                Tested 2017

Yeah, and? About the only car in Australia that failed that one was the Mustang

Try passing the 2019 tests, then we'll talk

You didn't tell me if you have ever been in one?

No, but I've also not hooked up with a crack hoe… But I think both would have the same end result.

Used Haval 2015, under 10k? LOL do some more research rather than hating on chinese cars.

              • +1

@hussy4877: Lol are you a used car salesperson? Or do you just like cherry-picking results?

Coz I can get a year newer one for $16k…

                • @spackbace: Does that even fit your claim of under 10k in 2 years?

                  • @hussy4877: As I said, go buy it… wtf do I care if you buy a lemon? You sound dead set on getting it, so off ya go!

As to your initial question, they'll probably pay you to take it off their hands. So start at $0, and see how you go.

Even better, late this year a whole new model goes on sale. Perfect time now to buy the current model!

                    • -2

@spackbace: Lol atleast backup your claims of under 10k after 2 years.

Show me a 2019 model for under 10k then we will talk.

How can you say it will be a lemon? You have never even seen one in person.

It comes with 7 years unlimited km warranty, better than your shitty mazdas and toyotas?

                      • @hussy4877: Go. Buy. It.

Or enjoy your job selling them.

                        Whichever is more fitting ;)

                        • @spackbace: I guess you love trolling on OZB

                          • @hussy4877: Nope, just amuses me when people make dumb financial decisions. Like buy a Haval. Or try to sell Haval vehicles to people.

95 RON fuel, no capped price servicing, lousy resale… lol enjoy the cost of ownership

I figured out there was no point in reading any further…

@websterp: You are clearly a troll, just compare the specs there is no comparison.

                            • -1

@spackbace: I feel sorry for people like you who don't look at value for money and go for the big brands.

If I wanted to sell a car in 2 years I wouldn't buy brand new anyway.

I'm sure you don't even know the specs of the Haval H2.

                              • @hussy4877: It's ok, if you want to sell them then go nuts and sell them. I'm sure all 3 of your customers are happy while under the warranty period.

Follow-up from the obvious shill salesperson - "Bought one but there was no negotiation, said they were flying out the door" lol

Hmmm, i30, Cerato, or the magnificent haval? What to choose.

    • +4

      I'd get the Hmmm

      • Not yet though. Hmmm Hybrid out in a couple months. Worth the wait.

    • I'd choose the bus

  • -3

Clearly OP wants to have it all for f*#k all

    • +1

Wtf are you on about? Too much free time on your hands?

  • +2

Even OzBargainers would say buy a used Euro instead of this.

    • +1

      Even a Renault…

      Shudder

  • I’d gladly drive one, well one of the utes, if I was given it for free.
Although I’d drive literally any 4x4 ute I was given if I thought it would be reliable for a couple of years, oh…

  • +4

Just out of curiosity I was looking up the specs of these H2s and apparently these sh*tboxes actually use an ancient 1.5L Mitsubishi engine from the 1980s that produces ~90bhp.

From what I can tell the GW4G15B in the Haval H2 was first used in Mitsubishi Mirages, Colts and Lancers back in the late 80s and early 90s and now seems to be the workhorse motor of choice for all of the car brands you've never heard of, such as: Proton, BYD, Soueast, Zotye, Geely and Yusheng.

Far out, this is what you want to buy in 2021 OP?

Hell, why don't you go all out and opt for a 1986 E10 Nissan Pulsar with a 52bhp engine or is that too luxurious and decadent for you, comrade?

    • So many reviews complain about turbo lag as well. How is that a thing from a small engine, small turbo'd car

Oh, plus it needs 95RON fuel… fun!

And no capped price servicing, with 6m intervals!

    • -2

You are so ignorant that you don't even know its a turbo engine.

Better torque and power than anything in this price range 210nm and 110kw.

How is that compared to a Kia Rio or Mitsubishi Mirage.

      Get your facts right.

    • Proton started their car business by actually making Lancers under license in Malaysia to supply the local market. I think they started with Lancer CA or CB. Now they have their own models and may be still using 4G15. But I don't think it is a match for today's standards specially in Aussie roads as in here we usually have bigger engines than JDM models. For an example, JDM Lancer CS2 (2002-2007) came with a 4G15 GDI. But in here, we got 2.0 L (CS7) & 2.4 L (CS9) as CG/CH Lancers.

  • It can't be worse than a Craptiva can it?

  • Why are you so upset? In the end people are just concerned that you are making a wrong decision

    • -2

Why would I be upset? I don't own the brand.
