    Talisker is soooo… much better.

    Laphroaig 10 Year Old is particularly monodimensional - very much a bucket of tar. Gave 70% of my bottle away. It didn't so much put hair on my chest as singe it off!

    Talisker still has distinct smoke/peat character - but you can taste so much more.

    It is like chilli to me. Like the flavour and a little warmth - but not so much that it overwhelms all the other components of the dish.

      I get where you're coming from but I've found as you get used to more aggressively peated whiskys the more they open up. When I was chasing the peat monster a couple of years back (to the point where I found the Octomore 7.1 wasn't nearly peaty enough) something milder like the Ardbeg 10 had a lot more complexity - I could look past the peat to experience the creamy vanilla/oak notes.

      Eventually I decided imbuing the liquid expression of a Hebridean Viking raid wasn't great for my health (or wallet), so nowadays I do find peat a bit more overwhelming.

      chilli absolutely kills my taste buds! Can't taste anything in a meal but chilli when it's in it.
