Graduation Gift around $500-700

Graduating next Sem and parents want to buy me a graduation gift. They don't know what to buy me and being a cheapass I told them to limit it to $500-700. But they came back to me and now I have to find a good gift to give my self. You guys got any ideas for a 20 years old IT Grad? I'll be claiming GST back another way so doesn't matter when the product comes out(before June preferably).

My Choices are

  • DSLR
  • Tablet PC
  • ???
  • Profit

So what will be really useful to me after I graduate?

  • Profit

Profit of course. Just take your $700 as a cash grad gift. Then go nuts on Boxing Day.

Or you could look through Cnet's Xmas gift guide… give you an idea of the best tech gifts.

  • Thought of a trip somewhere? Haven't looked at the prices but AirAsia have been having a lot of sales lately.

This semester was my last and next year I'm embarking on a 3 month trip to Europe then another 6+ month trip to Asia later in the year. Definitely need a break after 4 long years..

    • hmm Thailand( reminds me of the Hangover 2)

  • Erm…. if you're struggling to think of something….. clearly you don't really need it…..

    why not donate to charity?

    • As much as I would like to believe otherwise, I am materialistic in nature and would really like to get something, charity is not an option. I generally don't spend too much on anything other than tech products which is why I came here to ask for different alternatives.
I'll still be getting the DSLR and maybe a tablet( if I need to think about needing it then I guess I don't need it) but was wondering of other stuff that might be useful to IT graduates that people already in IT can sort of suggest.

  • Why don't you use it to pay off your student loans?

    • +1

none left mate…work in IT already ;)

  • how about a new suit or two? although - if you're in IT, you might not need one so much. :) But maybe for special events?

  • Ask for cash. You can decide later.

  • Have you considered investing the money?
