Is It OK to Put Your Poo Bag into a Household Bin on The Street

So we often walk our dog at night time.

If he does a poo, we'd pick it up using a bag, tight it, and throw the bag into the bin at the park or our own (red) bin.

One night every week, we will see the bins out on the kerb side on our walk.

So the wife and I were debating if it's OK to put the Poo Bag into someone else's bin.

All the bins will be emptied by the council trucks the following morning.

Where does the OBZ community stand on this?

I have someone who continually puts it in my bins after they have been emptied. So not ok!!

For everyone who has a dog and does the right thing by picking up their poo, please feel free to deposit it in my bin. It is the one with the red lid. Any moron who objects to this need to take a good hard look at themselves and get a frikkin life. I view it as very unAustralian to object to this.

Continually getting the plastic bags of dog poo in my Green bin so not okay.

Yes, it's fine to put it in someone else's bin. It all ends up in the same place…

Plus, if it's bin night, then all the rubbish will be emptied soon and the potential smell won't have any impact.

I hate it when neighbours dump their extra rubbish cannot fit in their own red bins and cannot be bothered getting another red bin and just dump it all in my bin when its out at the kerb. End up having crap of sauces and liquid inside!

I would not think dog poo is acceptable in my bin at all times!

  • technique is important, hell, I've left poo-ed in poo bags in my car overnight and they're been fine!

it's a garbage bin, unless it smells like roses, it's fair game.

    • thats just plain nasty.

  • I wouldn't really care if someone put it in my bin before bin night. Probably wouldnt even notice.. but i wouldnt do it to someone elses bin, not that hard to just carry to car and even put in boot if no public bins avail (dont like doing that though!).

  • Your poo bag or a dog’s?

I live in a rural tourist area. Everyone here is friendly, stops and talks to complete strangers if they see you in your yard, even the housos hoping to learn your habits before breaking in are nice. But we feel like chasing our neighbours down with a chainsaw at full tilt when they leave their dog 5h|+ in our bin.

Bins get emptied about 6am. Which coincidentally is the same time many dogs have trained their owners to walk them. There's several houses including mine, after a l-o-n-g stretch of council fence leading to a popular sightseeing location. The dog owners here must have gotten together on some group discount from the same vet to fit synchronised orifices to their mutts anuses… making them magically open only AFTER our houses come into view, rather than along the previous mile of council fence and bushland.

So every one of us, belligerent teenagers, exhausted pregnant mothers, pensioners hobbling on walking sticks or electric scooters alike, could give Usain Bolt a run for his money… all of us competing to see who's unfortunate enough to be the last one to bring their bin inside this week. Who will be victim to several people walking their mobile 5h|+ factories leaving their mostly neglected pet's undigested Pal Meatybite bombs in our bin, meaning you don't get to wash it out for MONTHS making it stink like the unholy festering folds of Rosie O'Donnell's cankles.

Not that it matters. Taking a vote here isn't going to stop their vomit-worthy 'deposits'. Why these people think it's ok to drop that gagging filth in our bin when they can't hold their breakfast down long enough to carry it home to their own, is beyond us. So the weekly Olympic dog 5h|+ sprint trials continue.

  • I personally blame cat owners for this dilemma.

I would rather they put it in my bin then left it on my lawn. As long as the bag is tied up, I don't mind.

  • Wow, there's over 1k votes already and thanks for sharing your stories / experiences.

    My personal view is that,

    a. should be ok if bin is about to be emptied.
    b. would not do it if bin is already empty.
    c. never ok if the bin is inside the property (regardless how close to the sidewalk), and
    d. WFT would someone bag the poo only to leave it on the ground?

D is just weird it makes no logical sense. They're probably Dan Andrews fans.

Lol, your bins smell like shit already who gives a crap if someone adds more to it.

Missing the option of always ok.

It's always ok, its a god damn bin you delicate flowers. Don't tell me there's nothing else rotting in there.

The alternative is poo on your lawn.

Do people seriously check whats in their bins?

yes, we all enjoy copping a face full of week old dog shit smell every time we go to put something in our wheelie bin

  • This literally gave me the shits when I saw someone do it. My bin was on my property but toward the front, I had no fence. Someone walked into my property to dump their dog’s poo into my bin. Disgusting, no respect.

I have since built a huge fence.

Just happened to me today. Only difference is that the owner dumped the poo in my bin after garbage was collected… The vile excrement has been festering in my bin for a few days. When I opened the bin a few days later I was disgusted by the smell. Dog owners, please take dog poo home with you.
