Officeworks ran out of the Western Digital $199 Elements drive, so they are selling the WD MyBook Essential 1TB for $199 instead of $249.95.

This is NOT at all office works, only those that have run out. It is not listed in the store either, you have to ask for the discount. Their "Internal Comms" folder contains this information, Western Digital have advised Officeworks to sell this until they get more of the WD Elements Drive. So if you want this drive, give your local Officeworks store a call.

I just bought 3 of them for $199 each! This is a good deal as it is a 3Yr Warranty (The other was a 2Y, including Harris Tech's Lacie 1TB, which was only 2Years)

    WD Elements is USB1.1/2.0, where MyBook is USB 2.0 only. Performance would be the main difference here, and the form factor.

      Wrong, both device are USB 2.0, which also means they are also 1.1/1.0 compliance, the main difference between the 2 drives is the casing, according to the website.

    I own both a 1TB MyBook Essential and a LaCie glossy 1TB. MyBook definitely get my vote for the quality, it is fanless and the disk is also virtually silent compared to the Seagate sitting in LaCie, the fan and the clicking noise aren't fantastic. For $199 definitely worth going for. Good luck!

    i called my local officeworks store and yes they have run out of the "elements" but they are still selling the "My Book essential" @$249. can anyone pls advise exactly where did they get this "special offer" info? many thanks in advance

    ok - i have called another store and was told that effective today (18/08)the WD My Book Essential is marked @ $199 storewide, i asked how long will this offer be on and was told maybe till the stock is finished. so guys, grab it while it's available.
    running down to my nearest store now

    Huge stack at castle hill store, you have to ask someone who knows what their doing or get them to ask the manager to get that price since it has to be marked down each time.
