Eh … So what about if you bought a lottery ticket online, printed it out and gave it to someone as a little present. The printout clearly stated that it cannot be used to claim prizes. In fact, you can only do so through the online account.

Family member just took thier ticket to their local agent, the agent scans and then took them aside to make sure they knew what was going on. The machine won’t make noise for the big wins. I think they went to the head office in Melb and had the funds transferred or cheque. Can’t remember now.

Hate to brag, but I won $5 from a used lotto scratchy thing when I was 8yo. The person before forgot to do the whole thing. My dad didn't let me cash it in though xD
My dad won $318,000 just after his family law settlement with my mum - then about 6 months later won about $50,000 from a badge draw at the club. So he really won 3 times. My mum tried to ask for some more cash. Her lawyers said "Wah wah wah (sad trombone song)".

"When" you win?
When you win you are contacted by the Lotto organisers and, depending on the amount, either attend their offices in person with the requisite forms of ID (big win) or the money is simply paid into your account if they have the details (smaller win). Any credited funds hit your account within a couple of business days.
If you've won a division 1, someone should call you. Usually takes a few weeks to come through after all the checks.
I've always thought it would be best to remain completely anonymous, not even disclose the winnings to anyone past immediate family or significant other.
Even that could be risky, money changes people. As everyone else has already said, suddenly everyone is your friend and wants something.

Someone definitely calls you. Ticket purchases online or in apps are considered registered ticket purchases. And these ticket windfalls can be contactable.

Yes once the drawer has been finalised you will definitely see winner winner. Normally within 30 to 60 minutes after the televised draw.

Depends on the amount. However large amounts have collection criteria and additional validation periods to go through.

That's a personal question one I'm not going to answer and and one that only you can really answer for yourself.
I won 1k on the $5 cat draw (forgot it's name). Anyway, the newsagent paid it up in cash. I then gave my friend free lunch and invested half of it back into the system.
