181

Was going through the pre-owned games bin at the local jb hifi (southland, vic) and saw virtua tennis 3 for xbox 360 for around $7, at the registers it scanned at $2.50! I got the last one at the southland store but am posting this as it could be a national pricing error? need confirmation, receipt uploaded..good luck!

    how is this a bargain/deal?

      • +12

there's also such a thing as trying too hard to justify a neg. This post was in line with the spirit of ozbargain, and quite pertinent for all the happy ozbargainers who scored the recent xbox360 console deal at harvey norman for $158. If it is a once off, I will happily remove it, but the point is, it was worthy of a post to confirm if its a once of or price error in jb's database….you like price errors…don't you?

  • What I don't get is why you're buying Fifa 10.

    • +1

      because its $12

      • Considering it's two iterations old, I wouldn't play $5 for it. Anyway, you can get it new for $9.95 here, shipped: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FIFA-10-XBOX-360-NEW-SEALED-/3306…

        • well I would pay $5, you might need the newest and the best, but some of us don't need to be paying a high premium for whatever minor updates the EA marketing team spin to justify a new version every year. And yes, it is cheaper on ebay, but then I would have had to wait for it in the mail. I probably shouldn't be wasting time justifying myself to you neggers, but I am finding it rather entertaining

Buying a game because it was $12. I hope no-one introduces you to steam.

        • +3

          Buy ALL the games!

My initial response was a stupid answer to a stupid question. There were other reasons, such as I like the fifa series, dont need the latest, it was a good price etc etc…but props for your post, it was quite witty actually. (and yes..I do have steam, and yes, I have impulse purchased on there during sales on occasion…but who hasn't ;) - see what i did there…smiley acts as close bracket..awesome

  • I agree, how on earth is this a deal for ozbargainers? It was a one off deal for you and no one else can get it as it was a pre-owned game…

    • hence the 'need confirmation' part of my post

    • oh and i will add, to counteract the once off argument, i'm sure there are other virtua tennis 3's sitting around in jb hi fi's around the country….but point taken, i concede it isn't a bargain for the masses…but worthy of a post nonetheless imho, even if it only helps 1 person

      • UPDATE: see j4ck's post below, looks like someone else did get it =)

What happened to Christmas spirit:) Glad you got a bargain.

    • Agreed!!!!
Just need someone to confirm the scan price at another store.

  • I would be surprised if it was a pricing error. Second hand, non-blockbuster games just don't hold value and they've probably only been giving $1 credit for it for a year.

    • you might be right, but c'mon.. 150% markup to make $1.50? Gordon Gekko would be dissapointed. Jokes aside, it was ticketed at $7+ (can't quite remember…that could be due to indulging in one too many ozbargain beer specials recently…hic!…)

    fun stuff

  • JB employees are pretty weary of this sort of thing. I once took NGS2 to the counter. It was marked at $110 or something ridiculous but came up as $30 on their system. He still went out back and got the manager to let me buy it…

  • I picked up NA 06 and FEAR 2 for 360 about a month ago for $1 ea pre-owned from jb, you can find these cheap but old games sometimes

interesting….so I suppose if you were a hardcore bargain hunter you would periodically visit a jb hifi, plonk a whole bunch of pre-owneds on the counter, wait for them all to be processed through the register and then cherry pick any mispriced ones and 'change your mind' about the others, or sheepishly return the lot because you left the wallet in the pram, which is with the mrs…outside, and you'll just duck out to get it…all hypothetical, ofcourse…lol

    no bargain

      you're a bargain

4yrs later ppl gonna be posting up SKYRIM for $5 and giving it a positive too.

    • +2

that's not a bargain….skyrim @ $2.50 in 4 years..now that's a Bargain ;) …the thing is, much like original classic cars, original classic games reach a low point in their pricing based on time, supply/demand, but once that low point is reached, the price slowly appreciates as it becomes retro/collectible due to…time, supply/demand…so buying certain items in the sweet spot of the pricing curve is economically smart, and a no brainer if said item is price errored even lower at the time. You only have to check out some classic snes games on ebay to see proof of this. Now, i'm not saying Virtua Tennis 3 is a classic, but it could be, in time, if the franchise is not continued as this version is arguably the pinnacle for the series thus far.
