Much better price - $90 is insane for older ported games (along with NWN, ice wind dale etc). Tempting.
How does this play on switch? Assume controls translate well?
Are there any other good quality TBS games on switch at a reasonable price?

    • Into the Breach is really damn good, cheap too.

      • Think I'm too spoiled by decent modern graphics :\
I'd probably pay for a decent android/dos emulator to play those older games - the hardware is nice.

Have you tried the Mario Rabbids game? It's essentially a toned down XCom for a younger audience.

      • Got that, thanks.

I've completed the game on Switch. It held up pretty well, but there would be occasional bugs like one of my soldiers not recovering or an animation would loop. This was resolved with a quick restart. Load times were a bit long, especially on Lost missions.

The UI is fairly small for the Switch screen and probably plays better on a TV, but even then the text is hard to read. Similar to Mutant Year Zero.

I still enjoyed it since I wanted to play it again in a hand held format.

95% chance of hitting. Still misses. Pro Controller through TV screen

  • Cover art still holds up as one of the creepiest images associated with a game. And it really is such a fantastic game, I played Gears tactics over the holidays and it felt so thin compared to XCOM 2.

  • Tempted t I order this but I no u free shipping unless over $49 :(

Tempted, because I've always wanted to play this (loved Mario Rabbids), but seems to be performance issues (crashes, etc).

Terrible port. Tons of framerate issues and general glitches. I am tired of having to redo hours worth of missions by reverting to previous saves due to game stopping glitches that prevent the game from moving to the Aliens turn. If you don’t save after every turn, you risk having to redo even more when it glitches. On top of the glitches 2K decided to put absolutely nothing on the game card, so you will have to download ~20gb worth of data to play. What a joke this game is. I should have learned my lesson with WWE2K. Never again will I purchase anything from 2K. They are garbage.

?Coming from the PC version, this is a terrible port of a great game. Wanted to have a portable version of it, but it's simply not as fun due to the glitches and graphics issues. First off, the quality of graphics is terrible — things just don't look right and with weird antialiasing, as well. The soldiers at the mission prep screen have this weird glow around them and overall blur around them. Secondly, many load screens before missions are simply just black screens and I'm left wondering "is this mission loading?". Lastly, this game will also a hefty download (24GB) out of the box in order to get necessary contents. I got this for cheap during Black Friday so I'm very glad I didn't waste more money on it.

Installed fine. Hase frozen 4 of the 5 times I have tried to play. My switch has NEVER had a problem before. It seems to be the game.

    • I'm currently replaying Mario Rabbids which is the reason I went looking for an alternative. Mario runs so smoothly and just enough involvement to be a bit past 'simple' but not too complex either.

I definitely wouldn't accept an inferior product for $90, but at $35ish (including postage), I'm willing to give it a go.

    • I've put a couple of hours into this game on the Switch. Can't say I've given it a beating.

I bought it because I loved other ports that I'd played (PS4, PC). So far my only complaint is slow load time - which I expected.

I haven't yet seen any of the glitches that people have complained about.

      • From comments I've read elsewhere, it seems to be later on in the campaign that it really starts to bog down and be an issue. I think it's levels with lots of enemies / stuff going on. eg. The "Lost" missions (whatever that means) in the WotC expansion was given as an example.

"download required" - on the front of the box

    PASS

(profanity) 2K always do this with their switch games.

  • I played this game a lot on the switch and it is great. Yes the performance can get spotty in the late game, but it's a turn based game, so it doesn't affect the gameplay thankfully. If you're not already familiar with the PC version you'd probably be forgiving. It's portable X-COM!

It's biggest issue is the load times are atrocious - be prepared to wait a long time for each mission to load, which is annoying in a pick up and play game. But on average a mission would last for about 15 - 40 minutes or whatever so thankfully there's not a lot of loading unless you save scum alot.

    • Yeah, not so much worried about the slow-downs (given it's turn based, as you rightly point out!) - it's more the random crashes that concern me. ie. Having to reload (with the atrocious load times!) and lost progress (possible corrupt saves as well?).

That's just what I am reading people complain about anyway. I'm just thinking it's safer to play this on PC (where I think I already have a copy - lol). :)

Edit: You almost convinced me to buy it…but price is gone up, so oh well! :)
