Annoying and Constant Police Helicopters around Melbourne

In and around inner Melbourne and metro Melbourne we have had a massive increase of police (and other) helicopters flying around. You can see for yourself with the various flight radar trackers.

It started with the Covid lockdowns in March 2020 and give a creepy 'we are watching you' / 'don't forget who's boss' police state vibe. In the early days, one could think 'oh, they must be looking for 5km rule breakers' (or something).

To me, it's harassment, and it really disturbs both my work and my sleep. I can hear them over my house at midnight and then again at 6am probably 2 or 3 days per week.

What are your thoughts and do they annoy you?

  It's either police choppers or thugs breaking in during night time. Gotta choose one.

    Yeah because Vicpol have demonstrated an excellent track record of cracking down on gang violence and home invasions in the past? And by cracking down I mean denying that there existed any problem.

    They're going to break in regardless of whether Vicpol have helicopters or stealth bombers because criminals are well-acquainted with how lenient the judicial system is and know they'll probably get off with a suspended sentence.

  I can see they annoy about 20% of OzB users. Interesting.

  Guess it's not just 'all in my head', 'you need psychological help' etc etc, thank you system enforcers

  I live in Melbourne and I hear helicopters almost every day, many times between 3am - 4am as well. I like about 40km from the CBD and its starting to get really annoying.

  No youre not being paranoid, and no they're not patrolling at 4am for our safety.
  The pricks havent stopped at all over footscray, maribyrnong and sunshine (western suburbs) ever since the lockdowns last year.
  all hours of the day/night, hovering low and causing a ruckus.

  These choppers, in the eastern suburbs, about 15 minutes from where Dan Andrews lives in Wheelers Hill, are getting ABSURD. I've been here for 50 years, and never have I seen so much chopper activity. This is surveillance and I'm wondering how much longer we have to put up with this. These choppers can see number plates clearly, so I'm gonna place a bigger sign telling them to stop their pathetic surveillance. My theory: they are so active in this area (Mt Waverly) because Dan Andrews now needs constant body guards to keep him safe… it never ends, these helicopters, out here.
