27-Inch or Larger Monitor Recommendations - Budget $500

I'm looking for a new 27-inch or larger monitor for WFH purposes with the following features for around $500ish max:

  • Very bright and good contrast, may be doing a bit of design work. No gaming.
  • Higher than FHD resolution.
  • USB ports. (Not completely essential but strongly preferred)
  • Height and tilt adjustable stand (or recommend me a stand which I can buy separately and which doesn't cost a bomb)

Was looking at Dell and HP, not familiar with other brands. Not sure if what I'm after is reasonable given my budget. Thanks for reading.

  • Have you considered a 34" ultrawide? I'll tell anyone who'll listen!!

The Xiaomi is commonly seen here for about $500 and is quite reputable. Kogans have similar monitors but depends if you have suspicions about Kogan's warrranty & returns policies in case of dead pixels etc.

I couldn't tell you about which models have USB ports, but given USB hubs are cheap I'd rather spend an extra $5 on a separate hub than change my purchasing decision.

Dell have good colour and the stand is awesome. Get an ips with the highest resolution you can afford

    • Which stand are you referring to?

      • The height adjustable ones included with some models

  • There is the Dell S2721Q 4K monitor that seems quite popular over here. But the stand has limited adjustments. Another one is S2721DS which is a QHD panel along with all the stand adjustments.

  • Can anyone comment on the difference between the S2721D and S721Q series panels: is the 4k worth it on a 27"?

The specs on the S2719DC look good except for the totally non-adjustable stand: anyone know if I can replace it with a 3rd party mount? (Dell chat is useless.)

      Check this out: https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/comparison/489014a4…
The Q model is 4K while the D model is QHD. Q model is also said to have 10-bit panel (I think more like signal path only).

I once owned a 27" 4K monitor and it was very beautiful. Fonts are crisp and everything looks ding dang sharp. However if you're using Windows, only specific points of scaling are 'native'. Which is a reason why 27" QHD (or 24" FHD) is a good balance between resolution, sharpness and scaling. Outside of these specific points, some software applications UI may look a bit odd. That was a while back so I think software developers may have overcome this UI issue.
