50ml for 30ml Price - 50ml Bottled Ink from $12.95 + Shipping (Free for Orders over $30) @ Van Dieman’s Ink

50FOR30

To promote their new 50ml bottles Tassie’s very own local ink maker is offering their newsletter subscribers the chance to buy Van Dieman’s ink at 30ml bottle prices. I don’t know if you necessarily need to subscribe first, but it wouldn’t hurt. I’m not sure if the Ink Of The Day promo applies as they haven’t mentioned one for today.

Limited time only or until stocks run out.

There is a newsletter about ink?

  • Man, the variety of posts on OZB!

PS: Can you drink the ink? Does it come in pink? … I have a Yink.

  • No squids were harmed in the manufacture of this product.

  • Wow actually keen to try it out

  • Pity that I have enough ink to last for a couple of lifetimes!

Oh, I know that feeling all too well! When I was moving down here I had to pack up my office, and once I’d assembled all my various bottles of ink for storage I realised there was far more than I’d ever use myself (and that’s not counting the innumerable samples and random cartridges I have, too). So, I vowed to put myself on a self-imposed ‘ink diet’. That lasted at least until 5 minutes after I discovered there was a local ink maker right here in Launceston. facepalm

I justify it to my family (and myself) there are far more nefarious things I could be wasting money on.

      • Sounds familiar. We were moving [CBR>MEL]. All the ink suddenly ended up in the same place. Don't even get me started on the variety of Fountain Pens…

  • Bit of a strange idea, but I like the idea of 'blood coloured' ink for my fountain pen. What colour would you recommend?

    • +2

Well, you’ve come to the right place to ask! If you want to stick with Van Dieman’s then the closest they come to that colour is Tamar Pinot Noir Wine Red, which isn’t quite what I’d call ‘blood red’.

Sticking with Australian made, you might have more success with Robert Oster from SA. He doesn’t sell direct to public, but most pen retailers here carry his ink, and you can download colour swatches here. I think the aptly-named Blood Crimson comes pretty close, or Fire Engine Red if you’re looking for more of an arterial type vs. venous.

Casting further afield, I’ve been a fan of Noodler’s for years. They have product listings for all their colours individually, and you’ll find the reds here. Caran D’Ache used to make an intense red but they have a habit of refreshing their product lines regularly, and I’m not near a retailer any more. D’Atrementis have a very extensive range of coulors, too, but since Milligram dropped the line I’m not sure where you’d get it these days.

There’s a few options for you to consider. :)

  • I can't find info about things like archival quality, uv stability, acid content etc

Could someone please link me to that?

    • I don't think they mention that on the site so it's likely something you would need to write to them and ask.

      • Ok thanks

How do you find the inks with bleed through and feathering?

        • +1

Sorry, I haven’t tested them a lot. I’ve got Pepperberry and Hanging Lake and thus far on normal copy paper they don’t bleed through much or feather, but they do take a while to dry. I’m keen to test on an art paper, or something like Tomoe River or Rhodia.
