      1) It comes as standard, 2) future proofing

        they all have 5G?

        • Yes, no 4G only version this year like there was with the S20.

  • Are we getting Exynos in Australia again for all models? I've got an s10+ & tbh I think I'll be waiting till the end of next year before I upgrade, seriously no SD card? How can you offer 8k video and no expandable storage? The headphone jack I love but I think Bluetooth earphones are starting to have enough battery life and quality that I can get over that but until the base model phones come with 256gb with 512gb still being fairly cheap maybe $100 more at most for me it's a necessity. And as for not including a charger, as soon as Samsung decides the power level standard and each new model doesn't have increased fast charging capacity then they are obliged to provide us with one. But I do hope in the near future they come up with a standard that's somewhat future proof in which case it wouldn't bother me. But start behaving like Apple and I'll stop buying your shit just like Apple. At least pretend that providing value to your customers is on equal footing as making a profit.
    S21 series very disappointing!

Are we getting Exynos in Australia again for all models?

I don't know why this question gets asked every year as if it's something new. You're getting Exynos and will continue to get it. No amount of groaning about is going to change that.

The question shouldn't be why are we getting Exynos. The real question should be why does the US get Snapdragon? And that's to do with patents that Qualcomm owns and does not license to them for use in the US. If Samsung could have their way, everyone gets Exynos including the US. Exynos is their own chip. They don't have to buy it from Qualcomm. They would love to be able to use their own chip in the US, but legally they can't. Even Apple was forced to use Qualcomm chips for their modem and can't use their own. They ditched Qualcomm and moved to Intel after a disagreement, then got taken to court by Qualcomm and lost.

The S20FE has a Snapdragon processor in Australia.

they made an exception for a late cheaper release. They use it in their tablets also.

It's not going to be used for their flagship range though.

      • Who cares what US gets? What matters the most that Aus consumers are once again ripped off.

        • Who cares what US gets? What matters the most that Aus consumers are once again ripped off.

It's not what Aus gets. It's what most of the world gets.

Wait for a potential FE release at the end of the year.

          • @lostn: Who cares what rest of the world gets?

            • -4

              @aveeno bb:

Who cares what rest of the world gets?

              Who cares what Australia gets?

You're not special. If it's good enough for the rest of the world, it's good enough for Australia.

              • -2

@lostn: What the hell? Who do you think you are? You might be trash but Australians deserve better.

By the way, Exynos is not good enough for the rest of the world. Period.

                • @aveeno bb: isn't the Exynos 2100 comparable, if not better, to the SD888?

                  • @ltwo: Not the GPU. CPU clocks are faster in the NEW Exynos, but Mali GPU still behind Adreno, and as a result, graphic intensive tasks such as gaming is likely to suffer.

This has mostly been confirmed in the NEW Kirin 9000 performance, which is pretty much same as the new Exynos but with higher core count for GPU. It still came out behind SD on graphics.

                • @aveeno bb:

What the hell? Who do you think you are?

No one special. And that's the point. Who do you think you are?

You might be trash but Australians deserve better.

You don't think the US matters. You don't think the rest of the world matters. So why would Aus matter?

                  • @lostn: Uh, because I am Australian living in Australia? Who are you?

                    • @aveeno bb: The same. But what makes Australians special, special enough to deserve snapdragon more than Europe, Middle East, South America, most of Asia?

                      • -1

@lostn: You must have such low self-esteem, that you think you are so shit compared to Americans, Chinese, or Korean.

                        • @aveeno bb:

You must have such low self-esteem, that you think you are so shit compared to Americans, Chinese, or Korean.

No. I just don't think we're superior to most of the world.

If you're this bent out of shape about a cpu:

                          1. Buy another phone
                          2. Import the phone from US/China/Korea; or
                          3. Wait for an FE edition

Solutions already exist, but it's more likely you're just going to whine about the same thing people have whined about for 7 years expecting it will change for no reason. You'll bring this up again next year for S22 and be surprised we get Exynos again.

                          • -1

@lostn: Yeah I am going to continue shitting about the fact that Samsung keeps releasing inferior product in Australia, and that I refuse to buy them until they release proper one. So what's your point again? Just shut up and by inferior phone for more than US, China and Korea because we are not special?

      • "Are we getting Exynos in Australia again for all models?"

"I don't know why this question gets asked every year as if it's something new. You're getting Exynos and will continue to get it. No amount of groaning about is going to change that."

Actually China also gets the Snapdragon chips and there was articles that suggested they were even going to start using them for the South Korean market so I don't think it's as done and dusted as you imply however I do understand your argument. Of course Samsung wants to use their own chips even though they manufacturer the QC ones but I still think of enough people complain about an inferior product perhaps there's hope?

        • -2

the US and China always got the Snapdragon. Everywhere else got Exynos. This is not a new upwards trend. It's been that way since they created Exynos.

We are the rule, not the exception. It's about time we got used to it.

          • -1

@lostn: Even this is wrong. Korea had models with Snapdragon (e.g. S20 series).

            • @aveeno bb: so 3 countries got SD. 200+ other countries didn't. You're not special enough to be in the "elite" Snapdragon privileged countries.

              • @lostn: Did you also compare number of units sold in each countries? Which countries do you think they sell the most units? Duh.

                • -1

                  @aveeno bb:

Did you also compare number of units sold in each countries? Which countries do you think they sell the most units? Duh.

Any time a 1.4 billion country is in the figures, the only statistic that counts is per capita statistics. Samsung phones sell worse in China per capita than most countries.

                  • @lostn: So whats your point exactly?

                  • @lostn: I get that you don't think you are special, and Australian should just shut up and buy inferior Exynos product because we ain't special. Is that right?

                    • @aveeno bb: No. I just don't like entitled attitude.

You have options. You can choose not to support a product you don't like. You can buy it from a different market. Or you can buy a different phone that has the CPU you like.

I woulndn't have a problem with your complaints if this was a new situation. It's not.

                      • @lostn: Yeah I am going to continue complaint about something until it gets fixed. Only losers will accept defeat and continue live meaningless life and don't bother complain.

                        • -1

                          @aveeno bb:

Yeah I am going to continue complaint about something until it gets fixed.

It's not going to get fixed. Does that mean we have to put up with you forever?

I have chosen to skip S21, after owning S6, S8, and currently S10+. But it's for other reasons.

Buy a product you actually like instead of complaining about one you don't, and one that isn't going to change. You already have options. As if you whining about is going to get Samsung to recall every phone designated for this market and change it to Snapdragon.

                          • @lostn: Don't tell me I have options. Tell your kids they have options.

                          • @lostn: Just buy whatever product your like, but don't tell of people who complain, or tell them what to buy or what options they have. Everyone will choose to buy what they like.

I am like others that complain about Exynos, free to complain about whatever I want to.

                      • @lostn: and I don't care if you like entitled attitude or not, if you see someone complain about Australia getting inferior product as entitled attitude, I don't know what your problem is.

                        • @aveeno bb: So you don't care about other countries that also get Exynos, just as long as Australia doesn't get it? That's just incredibly self centered.

The actual difference in performance between the chips is not worth getting your knickers in a knot over it if you look at the benchmarks.

                          • @lostn: Don't tell me I am self-centred, because that makes you sound like you are very judgemental.

I chose to complain about the fact that Australia is getting the Exynos versions, and I let other living in other countries with Exynos to complain about their own problems.

                            • @aveeno bb: Let me get this right. You must have a Snapdragon. But you also must have a Samsung? No other model of phone is good enough for you, including one that uses Snapdragon?

Of all the legit things there are to complain about in this country and world, you choose first world problems?

If they forced you to buy this phone as is, fair enough. As a consumer you can choose not to support what you don't like.

                              • @lostn: Yes because we live in a first world country.

I choose to complain about the fact that Samsung still uses Exynos in their flagship product, because I hoped they are good and bought it, and found out it was inferior. I love Samsung products, and use a Samsung product. I complain because I wish they consider there are users complaining about Exynos.

                              • -1

@lostn: The fact they Samsung again have released another flagship with another Exynos, that will prevent me from buying a S21.

Time will tell when we see the actual benchmark, but I am not convinced Exynos is better than Snapdragon this time around.

So I will continue use my Samsung product with Snapdragon chipset which I chose to buy from overseas rather than buying an inferior Exynos version, or look elsewhere.

      • Nothing about license but all bout costs.

SD888 apparently cost more as it’s not manufactured by Samsung itself. Comparing to US and China, Other markets are bit too small, and Sammy needs to firm a certain percentage of margin that’s the real reason of why they are not offering us Snapdragon chipset

To be honest, exynos is really not that good… if you ever own a snapdragon you would realise the difference.

To be honest, exynos is really not that good… if you ever own a snapdragon you would realise the difference.

Do you own an exynos 2100 phone? How big is the difference compared to your snapdragon 888 phone?

          • @eug: I own HK note20 and AUS Note20, I am speaking the truth.

Mind me ask you, if u own a snapdragon phone?

            • @pzhon:

I own HK note20 and AUS Note20, I am speaking the truth.

My point was that you don't know what the exynos 2100 is like. It is meant to have improved and be on par with the SD888 apart from its GPU.

Mind me ask you, if u own a snapdragon phone?

Yes. I had the Pixel 4 and still have the Mi Mix 3 5G which are both SD855. My Essential Phone had the SD835, and my tablet has the SD 865+. I also have the Exynos S20 and the S10 before that.

As I don't game on my phone, the difference that matters the most to me is battery life. The S20's performance with the Exynos 990 is fine for daily use, so the only reason I'm interested in the S21 is that I expect the Exynos 2100's battery life to be better.

              • @eug: That's right, the main thing is you don't game on your phone.

Gaming on exynos phone is extremely hot, and end up with dropping frames. Terrible gaming experience.

As you mention, even you don't game on your phone but just daily use, the battery is not as good as SD phones .

Exynos won't be significantly improved and I highly doubt it will remain its features.

                • @pzhon:

Exynos won't be significantly improved and I highly doubt it will remain its features.

And that goes back to my original point. How do you know the Exynos 2100 isn't significantly improved? What do you base that assumption on?

                  • @eug: base on how Sammy designs their exynos chip in the past years.

                    Just something you cannot expect.

Will you expect a turtle running faster than a rabbit ?

                      @pzhon:

base on how Sammy designs their exynos chip in the past years.

Oh, so you're probably not aware of how different the Exynos 2100 is.

Samsung has abandoned its own CPU design and now use ARM cores like the SD888. That is why people are very interested to see how this particular release is compared to the SD equivalent.

                      • @eug: I like your positivity, and it does look like Samsung have made some progress. But the benchmarks still seem to show that the Exynos 2100 is still clearly behind the SD888 in a number of areas.

Don't get me wrong, at the end of the day i reckon it makes zero difference to the everyday user. It's just the perception that there's a (slightly) better model out there that we're not allowed to have.

                        • @wombat81:

I like your positivity, and it does look like Samsung have made some progress.

It's more about facts than positivity. There are people claiming the Exynos 2100 is terrible compared to the SD888 just because they think so. I prefer to wait till proper benchmarks have been run by multiple sources before telling everyone it's one way or the other.

Don't get me wrong, at the end of the day i reckon it makes zero difference to the everyday user.

                          Yup, agreed!

    • How can you offer 8k video and no expandable storage?

Do people actually have a serious use for 8K video shot on a phone at the moment?

FWIW on the S20, 8k24 doesn't take up much more storage than 4k60. PhoneArena compared the two, for a 1 min 30 sec clip, 4K60 took up 752MB and 8k24 took up 886MB. It's all about the bitrate, not the resolution.

And as for not including a charger, as soon as Samsung decides the power level standard and each new model doesn't have increased fast charging capacity then they are obliged to provide us with one.

Why? All the phones will charge even with an old 5V 2A charger. For overnight charging that's what I use to reduce any unnecessary heat production which will degrade batteries.

But start behaving like Apple and I'll stop buying your shit just like Apple.

Apple is next-level. They removed the charger from the package because "everyone" already has an old iPhone charger.
But they shipped it with a Type C to Lightning cable which won't plug in to any old iPhone charger. 👌

    • You can literally use any phone charger that you can get USB-C out of with an S21. Doesn't matter if the max charging speed is 65W or 10W, you can use any charger.

  • This seems like a pretty good deal, even for the + and ultra.

  • I'm with Vodafone and also have an S9+. They're currently running a promotion for trade-ins for the s21 ultra.
I get $160 cash for the phone and $500 credit towards the bill.

    • Got the same email from Telstra.

But reading up and comparing between S20 and S21, beside the 5G and 8G for S21, it seems there very little changes between the two phones.

  • The Good Guys hammer any one with marketing emails??
    Never happened with JB.

  • Does anyone know if this deal also applies to the 256GB phones (pay the extra $100 obviously)?

  • Being eyeing of upgrading from my Pixel 2, and after the supposedly lackluster 5, have been debating other options.

What do people think of this compared to the Pixel 5? Online comparisons are not necessarily accurate because they mostly talk about the Snapdragon chips.

I'm mostly interested in camera performance. I understand the S21 has a better camera, but the Pixel uses computational photography to excellent effect.

    • Both use computational photography, every smartphone does.

There's no comparison between the Pixel 5 and S21 - the Pixel 5 is a mid range phone with a good camera, the S21 is a flagship phone, best android phone on the market, with a good camera. As someone that owns a Pixel 3 (which has the same camera as the 5) and a S10e and S20, I prefer the samsung camera because Pixels artificially add so much contrast and noise that can't be removed, whereas you can always turn up the contrast in editing with samsung cameras.

      • I had the Mate 20 Pro, Pixel 3 and 4, and the S10/S20. I bought them all for the cameras, and was surprised that I kept preferring the photos from the Samsungs which I found were more consistent and looked more natural. I guess everyone uses their cameras differently and have different preferences when it comes to looks.

Having ultrawide, standard, and telephoto cameras makes a large difference to me. Hopefully Google one day decides to embrace a third camera.

  • Is this Telstra plan available via ESim?

  • Can you upgrade your plan after subscribing to the $69 one? I'll need more data than this.

  • Samsung is on the very low point for me, I'm so disappointed and annoyed with them for copying and following suit with Apple, after years of trying to be different. The removal of the power brick so soon is the real killer, it's game over Samsung!

    • +5

Is it really the end of the world? Really? I'd love to know how many people actually use the new power brick they get with their new phone, or just plug it straight into the their existing one? How many power bricks do you have unused in drawers at home?

Sure there's an argument they they should include a full fast charger. Personally, I'm happy for the device to be a big cheaper and then I can go a buy the charger I want if I don't already have one.

It is pretty slack that Samsung mocked Apple for doing it and then followed suit, but I really don't think it the massive deal lots of people are making out.

  • Is it confirmed you can choose any model S21, S21+ or Ultra and just pay a higher upfront cost on the same plan?

    • +1

      Yes

      • I called TGG this morning and they said it wasn't available for th S21 Ultra 512GB model.
The sales person I spoke to did sound unsure and had to go off to check.

Can anyone else confirm wether this is possible?

        • Spoken to another TGG and they advised still not available however the offers they have are:
          $69 12 month plan gives a $300 voucher
          $99 12 month plan has a $10 per month credit making it $89 a month with a $600 voucher

Best deal over 24 months on Telstra 5G I can see for now is
          12 months at $89 = $1068
          then 12 months at $69 = 828
          S21 Ultra 512GB at $2149 - $600 voucher = $1549
          total over 24 months = $3445

Of course you can move to any plan after 12 months to make it cheaper.

HN S21 Ultra 512GB Optus offer works out to $2939 over 24 months

The only reason I'm considering Telstra is because they have 5G coverage where I live, how bad is Telstra compared to Optus in Melbourne CBD for 5G and 4G? Do I even need 5G at home? my home broadband isn't bad, just average.

    • Can confirm, signed up Thursday evening and was +$100 to get the 256gb version of S21 Ultra.

  • Telstra have a $65 a month for 180GB plan, any one have luck signing up to that one and getting this deal? https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/sim-only-plans#upfr…

  • Anyone know if existing Telstra customers out of contract can port out their number and then sign up for this deal? Or would that not work?

    • I believe that's reasonably commonly done with deals like this. I haven't done it personally. If you look back through some older threads I'm sure you'll find people describing how they've done this.

      • Thanks. Apparently you have to be ported out for 30 days. I'll just do that next time before a new release.

    • I ported out on the 15th and ported to the $69 plan following day with s21 preorder.
Just received a call phone is ready for collection.

  • +1

I went to my local Good Guys store at Oxley, they have additional $10 credit on the plan bringing down the monthly cost to $59.

Also got the $10 credit at my local tgg

  • Extended until 14 Feb. Terms

  • I just signed up for the 256gb. $1199 upfront and $59 ongoing.
Just wondering, as I read here but can't the info. There was mention of asking to do a particular type of transfer that enables me to move existing number to the new plan account. Anyone have insight on this? Cheers

You dont need to port out & back in…….and I'm a Galaxy S8 OG with telstra $59 24 month plan from 3 years ago.

Sign up for a new number, get the gift card (in my case was the $400 good guys from a few weeks back) or new phone and plan (upgraded to 80GB per month for $59 12 month contract) - wait for the new # to show up in your telstra my account, move your OG # to your new account, which closes out your old plan.

      Thanks for coming.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. While a few people (one person?) may have achieved it, I highly doubt it's commonly done. You would need to win the chat operator lotto big time. As I said in reply to that post, this process makes deals for new customers and port ins pointless, so there's no way telstra would allow it to happen widely.

      • Makes sense. That was a different post and the guy mentioned a particular term for what needs to happen. A UID change or something like that.
He said to ask for someone that is able to do a UID on the chat. I'll scroll through some more comments. It was on a much older post. Maybe the FE20 deal from a while back. Thanks!
